Puddles,

I spent from January to July at Camp 9. All the fresh thinning above the road is my handywork. There were quite afew elk hanging around the 4 1/2 to 5 mile mark on the Salmonberry Rd, then over on the North Fork side we saw lots of animals. Many times right where we were working. Hope you guys get into them, good luck!

Great Job Puddles and Son!
I am headed up there Wednesday morning thru the end of the season with my oldest son. My youngest son got a cow up there on upper Cook Creek last year. We plan to try the same area if the snow is not too deep.

I am happy to brag for my son. He headshot a cow on upper Cook Creek at 1:30 this afternoon.

Roads were very clear until we got to the very highest ridges. Even then, on the South sides they were still clear. The Northern exposures had a few drifts that turned us around a few times.

The snow came in handy though. My son was thoughtful enough to shoot the elk on a slope about 25 yards uphill from a cut bank. I backed the truck up to the bank, we gutted the elk, and ulled her right into the back of the truck. Then we drove to our local snow drift and packed her body cavity with snow.

From gunshot to gambole was only 5 hours. We had a blast, and my other son is going next year, preference points willing.
