Default Attention Hunters...This is important!!!!!

Got kids? Care about our hunting rights and the future of our sport? Sick and tired of the $#!T espoused by those who would value animals and humans the same? PLEASE READ ON!!!

General Mills, maker of a variety of breakfast cereals, is promoting the nation’s largest animal rights organization by distributing free calendars in specially marked boxes of Golden Grahams cereal.

The “Pets and Their Celebrities” 2002 calendars feature information from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and its Kids in Nature’s Defense (KIND) News. It includes photos of a number of celebrities and their pets, including Christina Applegate, David Alan Grier and Brendan Fraser.

KIND News is a classroom newspaper the HSUS uses to spread its animal rights message to children. Produced by the National Association for Humane and Environmental Education, a youth education division of the HSUS, this newspaper is printed monthly and is read by more than 1.2 million school children, grades K-6.

“General Mills has made a tremendous mistake in its support of the Humane Society of the United States,” said WLFA President Bud Pidgeon. “In this partnership, General Mills and Golden Grahams cereal are promoting an organization that is determined to eliminate the American traditions of hunting, fishing, trapping, animal agriculture and other animal use.”

General Mills is not alone in their misunderstanding of the nation’s largest animal rights group.

“The HSUS has millions of people fooled into thinking it is raising money to save dogs and cats that are stranded in local shelters,” said Pidgeon. “The truth is HSUS does not operate or oversee any animal shelters. In fact, the organization spent less that one percent of its 1999 income of $67 million on grants to wildlife, animal habitat and dog and cat shelters.”

Take Action! Sportsmen should contact General Mills to express their extreme displeasure of its support for the Humane Society of the United States.

Message sent to general mills feedback

I am very disappointed to hear that you will be supporting HSUS and KIND by distributing their material in your boxes of cereal. My family will no longer buy General Mills products as long as you support anti hunting and fishing groups. I will also be informing as many outdoors people about this as I can. When I was a kid, we got toys in our cereal boxes not political propaganda? Have things changed that much?

Here's my two cents to GM::

I have recently been informed of General Mills' decision to include the Humane Society's Pets and their Celebrities calendar in your Golden Grahms cereal. As an avid outdoorsman and advocate for the protection of our nations heritage in hunting and fishing, I find this very disturbing. The executives responsible for this decision have every personal right to support HSUS with their own funds, outside of the corporate arena. In kind, I will choose not to support General Mills with my personal funds because of this support of HSUS. I buy your cereals for my family and we love them; however, I do not care to support HSUS programs in the process.

I would ask you to strongly consider if supporting a devisive organization is a partnership General Mills really needs? In the mean time my family will do without General Mills cereals and I will continue to inform others of your current decision.

Sir,
I cannot, in good conscience, support you in your effort to provide funding to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). As an outdoor enthusiast and one who believes that harvesting and consuming wild fish and game provide sustenance to the body and the soul, HSUS's stance against those lawful activities is diametrically opposed to my philosophy of life. I will stop purchasing your products and direct my investments away from funds with General Mills in the portfolio. I hope you will reconsider this ill conceived advertising endeavor immediately and find a more mainstream effort to support.

So has anyone even got a token response yet? I sure haven't. My e-mail was polite so you would think they could at least respond.

Thanks for all your responses. We need to light a fire under 'em and stop their effort to support those who oppose our rights to hunt, farm, and fish. The children of America are the most succeptible to the kinds of lies radical animal rights groups promulgate. It's no surprise they would target them. Keep writing people--they haven't heard the last of this!!
