Default FNG- or "newbie"

Hello all!http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/icons/grin.gif
grin

I've been checking out this great site(THANKS JENNIE!!!)for at least two years and decided it was time to join in. First some background on me, I'm orginally from PA. and moved here back in '92. I used to fish all the time back there and planned to do the same out here. But that didn't happen until approx. 2 years ago. I still can't fish as much as I used to but I'm getting my line wet more and more each year.

O.K. Now for the fishing story, Which is from my time back in PA.
How I lost my favorite lure, by me
It was a typical lazy Saturday morning in spring when my buddy calls to see if I want to scout out some holes. Of course I was glad to get out so I jumped in my truck ( fishing gear always in back at the ready) and picked him up.
Now in PA, Lancaster county to be exact, there are sooo many streams,"creeks" and ponds, that arren't on any maps you just have to pick a back road and keep an eye out. It had rained pretty much all week and we had little hope of anything special that day. We spotted a small creek that was
bordering a farm and a small house, posted like usual so to the farmer we went to ask permission to use his meadow to get to it. Much to our surprise he said it was o.k. but only for today. We hike back to the truck, grab our gear and away we go. My buddy was fishing for trout and I tried for some small mouth,(using my all time favorite fish slayer "the grim reaper" a really funny colored rattle trap. . I was just upstream by a fallen tree when on my third cast I thought I'd seen a half sunken branch heading our way. I warned my buddy to be on the lookout and thought about changing lures so as not to loose my favorite. Nah, if I hook a branch I can just reel it in, the current wasn't that fast and I could always say that at least I caught a stickfish. Several casts later I noticed the branch getting closer, so I just cast upstream and over it. A couple more casts and the "branch" is back upstream????? Could it be the same "branch" ? I tell my buddy who figures its about time to try another hole and he just sits on the bank behind me waiting for me to give up. One last cast I tell him and we're outta here! I look back upstream and make a cast for the "branch" I start a slow retreive and now it seem that the branch has sunk...... I start reeling in quickly and just as I'm about to hop "the grim reaper" over the fallen tree BANG!!!! DA##*#@ snagged the tree. My buddy is on the ground laughing at me something fierce! I grab my rod with both hands and give it a solid yank and low and behold a 30" Musky goes flying past me almost landing in my buddies lap! Upon hitting the ground he spits the lure and starts flopping around and I'm yelling at my buddy to grab it! To which I cannot post his reply.... My heart sunk as I watched him slither back into the creek. Upon inspection of the "grim reaper" the tail and rear trebble were missing and there were some severe scars on the sides, maybe he didn't spit the hook after all. I thought it might have broken on the landing but could not find any pieces. So I laid to rest the "grim reaper" and that was how I came to lose my favorite lure.

Hope that wasn't too long or boring for ya'll. I could have gone into greater detail.

In closing, I hope to gain as much knowledge from you guys as I can!!! And quite possibly help out if I can.
Thank you.

Welcome to Ifish!! Great story. Remember, the only fish you catch is when your line is in the water.
