Default columbia camping boat launch

ok you guys/gals we are trying to find a peaceful camping area, these are the boat launches we are looking near. giles french park, irrigon marina park, pattersons ferry, port of arlington, quesnel park, lepage park. anyone with any ideas where to camp where we can have our boat in the water on a bungee anchor at camp or near the boat launch so we don't have to go ten miles from camp to launch the boat. free is good, cheep is ok, we have a large trailer, the boat, and two trucks for the towing. not a small camp when we set up any ideas on the columbia, up river from biggs to the washington line east of hermiston.

I really like LePage park because you can go up river about three mile to the park up river. It has a place to dock your boat at, toilet, shower, but you do have to bring your tent and stuff like that. Good fishing around there but the wind will blow sometimes.

I have to more than agree. If I'm not mistaken spot that you are talking about is at the mouth of the John Day. There is a GREAT campgroud 2-3 miles above the ramp. Great place to camp, bathrooms the whole deal. 12 miles to the falls. Wind is a factor but this time of year shouldn't be a consistent problem. Hella of fish and wildlife.

Free at rufus by the river as mentioned in the earlier post, John Day as mentioned also, arlington has a campground/ marina on the river, boarcman has a nice campground marina and then there is the Umatilla campground and marina with boat slips sometimes. I don't know prices on any of these anymore.

It just depends on what you are looking for in a campsite/ launch area.

Just a couple weeks ago, the wife and I did a driving trip to scout both the Oregon and Washington sides of the Columbia from the Dalles to McNary Dam. Probably visited 15 to 20 campgrounds. The one that stuck out the most was Crow Butte Campground. It is located on the Wash side between Boardman and the mouth of the John Day. Could be busy on the weekends during the nice weather, but had great cove for boat anchorage, nice ramps, supposedly very good bassin in the coves. Nicely kept facility. The do have a website.

I know of a very nice camp ground in Washington near The Dallas. Horse Thief Lake is good lake and the river is good from shore!

Baltz, if you had ever done recon in the military, you would have known how to find the secret spots. In fact on Sunday you went right by it!!
