A-Bolt Scope help ?
A gunsmith found my Browning A-Bolt White Gold Medallion 300win-mag w/BOSS, I gave him a deposit and it's on it's way. I should have it in 4 days.
I now need a scope, What should I go with ? $500.00 or less. I will be hunting eastern Oregon in units like Ukiah, Heppner, Murders Creek, so thats the type of country.
Any recommedations ?
Thanks again for all the input and help on my other post. Ken.

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
Congrats on your new gun! You get what you pay for. I would say Leupold VXII OR VXIII. I have a hard time spelling this particular brand, but you know what I am talking about.

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
I agree with the Zeiss Conquest, my preference is the 3.5 to 10 but the 3x9 is just as good and may be better, depending on what suits you best.

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
Another vote for the Leupold. There are better scopes out there, but not for $500......
With that said, Nikon also makes a very nice scope in that price range.

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
Weaver Grand Slam 3-10, but there are others as you'll hear. There are topics on these boards that are always controversial - what caliber, what rifle, what scope - have fun.

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
Leupold!!!
Riflescopes.com and Natchez Shooters sell them at pretty decent prices.
I currently have the VX-III 3.5-10 on my A-Bolt and really like it. It has bright and clear glass and is built very well.
My 2 cents worth.

I put a Leupold 3.5-10 VX-III B&C Reticle on my new A-Bolt and love it. I got brand new on Ebay for $425.

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
All you really need is a Leupold VX-II in a 3-9x40, but the only problem with that is that would only run you about $280...well over $200 less than what you're wanting to spend. If it makes you feel any better the new VX-II is just about equivalent to the old VariX-III, which in a 3.5-10x40 would have run you about $475 from Cabelas just a year or two ago.
Just think of all the extra gas you could buy!

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
I've got the A-bolt 30-06 with the Nikon Monarch UCC scope and love the package...no eye strain at all for me....scope runs from mid 200's on the auction site by the bay and around 400 or so from retailers.

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
I would compare the eye relief of all the brands and the power ranges of each scope. I think you will find for the money Leupold has the best eye relief on the market, that is a big deal for me, I have been scope branded. I now have Leupold on all kicking rifles.

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
Zeiss Conquest 3X9 available on Ebay for mid $300's if you know how to bid and don't mind waiting.
No question, best scope in that price range....probably best scope under $500.
If I wanted to spend $200, it would be Burris FFII.
Go with Zeiss.

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
Hey guys, thanks for all the input, advice and all. It has been a lot of good information. I have Leupolds on my (3) big guns now. The last one I purchased was about 20 years ago. Man, that makes me feel old !
So far we have 10 to say go Leupold, 3 say Zeiss, 1 Weaver, 1 Burris, and 1 Nikon. The Gunsmith/Dealer I am getting the gun from was leaning me to a Burris. He thinks they are great scopes. Plus you get a free spotting scope to boot, but I'm buying a scope for a gun not a spotting scope.
Thanks alot for your help it is much appreciated ! When I get this new gun put together I will try to post a pic. I think I can get the neighbor kid to help figuer that out (how to post it)

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
One more vote for the Leupold VXIII. I have this scope in a 3.5x10x50mm on my Browning A Bolt 270 WSM and I love it. Great customer service and American made, and local to boot. You will not be sorry!!!!!!!

Re: A-Bolt Scope help ?
Good choice! Was going to suggest the VXIII 3.5X10lr. 30mm tube and 45mm objective, more glass that mounts the same as a 40mm. You'll not be sorry with your choice, however! Good shooting.
