Default Australian bluefin tuna farms

Just saw most of a show on National Geographic channel about the Australian "tuna cowboys", who spend weeks at sea waiting for that one moment when their spotter plane can find a huge group of immature bluefin tuna. They encircle them in net pens and then drag the net pens back to port where they are hustled into permanent pens to fatten up for the Japanese market. These "cowboys" dive into the net to repair tears caused by sharks and they also have to "assist" the sharks out of the pen. Some of the sharks get entangled in the nets, including makos, and the cowboys have to unsnarl them at great risk to their lives and limbs.
These guys are making some serious money ranching these tuna as the Japanese pay mucho dinero for these fish. I went on the internet to look up more info and there was a story about one of these Australians who was on a contract job with a Mexican tuna farm who had to go into the pen to kill a great white. So, I guess the Mexicans are also doing the same thing, but where I don't know.
Just thought you guys might be interested in all this, so I am passing it on. If you are more interested, go on Google and put in Port Lincoln, Australia Tuna Cowboys and you will get hits that will tell more of the story.

I watched that show tonight too. It will be on again tomorrow from 16:00 - 17:00 and I think from 23:00 - 24:00 on the National Geographic Channel.
I couldn't believe that diver cutting the Mako loose on the bottom of the pen. The only way I would have gotten near that monster would be with a shotgun!
Good show!

I look down on those pens as I drive the toll road north of Ensenada, I was wondering what they were growing.
