Default How do you fish the Dam at Hagg??

I was wondering if any could share a few tips on how to fish the dam at Hagg? I have only fished the coves and creek arms. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ya the dam is a good spot. I start out in the cove on the south end of the dam. Then I work my way crossed the dam.
I use spinner baits and buzz baits early, as the sun comes up I switch to SENKO type lures and late summer top water is good all day. I just cast out about 100 feet from shore Sinkos fall slow in the deeper water so hang in there!. Work your senko NEAR the bottom of the lake. As you get your lure near the dam rocks be ready. It's is also good near the spill way (thanks to the fishen magician). This time of year at Hagg fish slow! Deeper lakes warm slower.

I like to crank the dam area. Use shallow diving or medium diving crank baits and work the entire length of riprap. For those crankbaits that float, allow them to sit a few seconds after they first hit the water before starting your retrieve.

Thats one method. Another is to troll your crankbait slowly along the dam. Sometimes I'll add weight 2 feet in front of the crank and troll it deeper than it's lip design allows. This method can be deadly.

Dropshotting along the area where the natural bottom meets the dam rocks is another favorite method. Besides bass, I have caught a lot of trout this way.

Yet another method is to throw both hard and soft jerk baits. Suspending jerkbaits fished with several pauses in your return can produce fish too.

Like Roger said, I also like topwater baits in this area. There is a ledge over by the spillway and retrieving a topwater along it's edge where it starts to drop to deeper water has produced some very nice fish over the years.
