Does anyone know the life span of turkey and how old they are when they get a beard?

There are three toms in this flock one with a 6 or 7in beard I have pictures of the same three from last year and the two younger toms still don`t haven`t started to show any.

It doesnt look like to me the other three turkeys are toms I believe they are hens that is why they have no beards. Usually yearlings have small beards and by two years of age they definatly should have some sort of beard.

They are terrible to eat and they poop all over the place and tear up the yard. Just tell where they are and I'll take care of them for you!

I've heard the average lifespan of a wild turkey is something like 6 months? Many poults die during the first winter, if a bobcat, coyote, or an eagle doesn't get it first! The turkeys that live in the valley and frequent rural driveways and backyards probably have a longer lifespan.

Jakes(yearlings)will have anywhere from a 2" beard to a 5-6" beard. Their beards will start showing in early winter from what I've observed. If you're seeing 6 to 7 inches of beard on the bird that's strutting, then you can add an inch or two to compensate for what is buried in his breast feathers.

those are all obviously males lead bird is a nice tom. other two are jakes the one behind lead definetly does have a beard you can see that little sucker just poking out of his chest. third bird you can't see it but its there. when they are that small they blend right in with those chest feathers.the back two bird are two years old, back one may only be a year. big man up front probably 4. he sure is pretty. don't forget beards are easily worn down too, so bird lengh is a poor judge of age, spurs are better i think, but if you hunt mountain birds these too become worn down. my Mathews is tuned up and ready to roll, can i come over and play!! here birdie , birdie , birdie.....
