Default Dead Willow ?????

Anybody ever hunt dead willow?

I drew for the 7th and need info.

Does the area have blinds?

What should I take and how do I hunt it?

What are the better areas and techniques to use?

Sorry for all the ??s but I am a little clueless and only put in for this hunt cause my... buddy.... told me to put it as one of my options.

Thanks in aadvance. Email me if you want to keep the advice private .

Mr. F Yes, I hunt too

Deadwillow is a pretty steady producer on the east side when it has water and feed - this year and right now it has both. It seems to get a lot of birds that fly across the island.

No blinds - its a roam unit, best bet is to set up in the corn or tall grass somewhere (have good camo or you'll stick out like a big white warning sign).

pretty much a decoy gig - and you'll be sharing with lots of other hunters. With a reservation you should be able to pick out good spot before the sweat line guys show up. Good calling will help, cause there will be plenty of bad callers around you. Sometimes the Roto ducks draw, but sometimes they dont.

There is a series of ponds that run along the unit N to south. Check the wind before you pick which side to set up - on the east or west side of the unit. Ask for a map when you get to the checkstation and you'll know what i mean.

All in all, it can be a good unit on a good day but tends to be crowded. Biggest issue ive had there is people setting up too close to my spread and shooting birds as they work my decoys. Case in point, last week i had some guy set up about 25 yards from my spread. But, that comes with territory on public hunting grounds - thats why we pay $5 and the guys with the leases pay $1000.

O.K. heres my secret. Go out and pick up about four cheap flashlights the little 1.99 specials at wal-mart. Get there early and spend the night be the first out and try and get to the big water on the right first. Using tape and a pole of some type place the lights in 40 yard increments around where you want to hunt that way people will think that tons of people are setting up on that section of big water and they will give you plenty of shooting room.
Ray, Rick Titus has that unit this coming weekend also. I have my budies down from California so I will be limited on what I can give you guys for decoys and will be unable to join you. I will give you at least two or three dozen and Sky would love the cahnce to go out and retreive your birds for you.

Also bring your green stuff and shaker and the party starts in the reservation line at 5 PM I'll fire the grill and hotwings and have a bottle of McNasty and some brews and probably some Meyers.

P.S. PLEASE leave the Takillya! at home.

I'll have the camper so join us for the night it wouls probably be best if you sleep in your rig though if its to clod though you can join us and we'll make do.

Ray contact me, I'm brain storming we have a race track blind but I may want to join you guys in deadwillow. I will need you and Rick to get out there and set up for us because we have to wait to come through the line. I'll talk to oyu on the phone.

Dan!

I'll make it up to you.
Seriously sorry I stood you up. I thought that you would have called but I should have called you. We wound up doing Astoria every day after having such a horrible shoot on Wednesday. It was a good shoot down there not great though. I'll call later. Once again I'm so sorry.
