Default Stoeger

Are there any Stoeger dealers in Portland? Thanks for the help ahead of time.

Ya, Sportman's Warehouse. I bought mine (model 2000 max4) last year and absolutely love it. Talk about value for the money!

Out of the box, the action is somewhat rougher than the benelli black eagle. But I was able to take it apart and smooth it up considerabley with very little effort.

I picked up a couple of those and thought their fit/finish was lousy, the action was sloopy and loose.

I ended up getting another dehaan and i am glad i did.

Another really cool thing about the Model 2000 is that the return spring is in the forearm rather than in the butt like the Benelli. What this means is that the Stoeger stock may be shortened considerabley for kids or for female shooters. MadMerganser was impressed enough by mine to want to buy one for his wife and son.

As far as fit an finish being lousy... Geez, I crawl through the mud with the darn thing. I use it for a canoe paddle when I have to. I DON'T do that with my drop-dead gorgeous Beretta Silver Pidgeon. As the inventor of the UZI knew full well, fit and finish does not always equal function, and can often mean just the opposite under adverse conditions.

Point is, with a little know-how, the Model 2000 can be a duck, goose, and turkey killing machine with most of the design advantages of the Benelli action at around 1/3 of the cost.

If you want fit and finish you are going to pay for it. I have a sxs stoeger 12ga and like it a lot. I have pounded it pretty hard and never had a problem with it.

I bought mine at Bi-Mart. If they dont have what you want they will order it for you. They were the cheapest.

Have you guys seen the new remington doubles coming out.. supposed to be priced like stoegers, but built like remingtons. No frills, just solid guns

if you are looking at an affordable double, i Mean under $500- get a baikal, under 1000- get a dehaan, under 1500- get a used Browning.

That is my .02
