Taxes Are Done!!!!

The good news is that they are done and I get a refund from the Feds. Bad news....i get to pay double my Fed refund to the State of Oregon!! Isn't that just wonderful...

I wish I could say mine were done. Working on them right now. Sorting a years worth of receipts and paperwork. Was pretty lazy on my bookkeeping last year. Haven't balanced the check book since tax time last year. I have promised myself that I won't let that happen again.
Better get busy. Have to drop the necessary stuff off for my tax accountant this week.

So are mine, finally. Had a nervous moment yesterday after Turbo Tax locked up on me. It got really slow, took three minutes per mouse click for the final tasks, but I have hard copy in my grubby little mitts, so I'm good to fish!

Never had a prob with Turbo Tax. I wish that it would let me right off the North River.

If I had a nickle for every time a client told me they would get better organized for next year I'd be retired and fishing every day. It doesn't bother me if you are not completely organized. I charge by the hour, not by the form.

Helpful hint - Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) is hitting more taxpayers then ever before. If you are preparing your return by hand, don't just ignore the AMT line on you tax return. Take the time to fill out the AMT form and see if it applies. Believe me, the the IRS checks.

Did my taxes months ago. Quite the eye opener to realize that you have a house, now 1 dependent, AND you and your spouse were still doing 0 witholdings on taxes. Can you say HUUUUUGE refund? Time to change my tax strategy.

Its ok though...its not like I'm a finance professional who deals with numbers all the time or anything. Oh, wait...

We finally did ours this weekend. We knew we had money coming back, but for some reason kept putting it off.

Is it just me, or is TurboTax getting buggier each year? I couldn't even import last years data! As a software developer I have a hard time understanding how a bug that visible made it out the door. (Ok, I do understand. It's called spend as little money as possible to kick off another version of the product. Your user base will just suck it up and buy again the next year.)

Have always done it by hand and probably always will.

I am sure it would take me longer to install the software than just fill out the tax forms by hand.

Had my taxes done in Feb, still waiting on my State of Oregon return and also Multnomah county. Feds were rather quick with getting the check deposited in my account :smile:.

I tried Tax Cut a couple of years ago and hated it. I'm a Turbo Tax guy...its never given me problems.

My Fed refund came quickly...Oregon refund took forever. And I still havent cut my check to Multnomah County....they have to wait 11 more days for that one.

Weird. I had state back much quicker than Fed both last year and this. Always Turbo Tax for me. Piece of cake. No issues.

But I really do recommend that you check for the latest updates before starting your return. I typically wait until the 1st or second weekend in Feb to do it. I figure that they probably rush the product out the door in January and it takes about a month to shake out the bugs.
