Flatfish M-2 Sp will catch Springers!( pic)
Well today I anchored up on the Columbia and wanted to try out these new Flatfish M-20 SP deep divers. There was a post a couple weeks ago about them and they looked pretty fishy  They are made to work down to 20' without any weight or diver. I happened to have anchored in about 27' of water. So I tied on a 48" leader and tested it beside the boat with a 24" dropper. Looked like it going dive way deeper than the dropper  Soooo I tied up a 7'dropper  yeah thats what the guys anchored next to me thought too. Looked like it might work with the long dropper. So I bounced it on back and set the pole in the holder. I no sooner sat down when Wham! Wasn't any messin around , I could hardly get the pole out of the holder . I went to set the hook and Snap! My leader broke right at the lure. I had used 20 lb test instead of my 30 that I usually use because the directions reffered to using 10 lb test and I thought the heavier leader might affect the action. Oh well I rigged back up with another one ( 30 lb leader this time!) and bounced it on back. About a half an hour later Wham! This time the fish stayed on  and I got it in the boat after an amusing fight that I am sure alot of folks got to laugh over. I am usually prepared to catch a fish by myself but this time was not one of those. It took me about 15 minutes just to clean up all the Doritos I kicked all over the floor of the boat while fighting the fish

these are the fish kilers

The one that didn't get away

Congratulations, did you run these plugs with a wrap or plain with scent or without?

I ran them with a sardine wrap and smelly jelly sardine scent. They have these little grooves along the sides of the lure for your thread wrap so it doesn't slide around . Makes for a nice tight wrap.

Re: Flatfish M-20 Sp will catch Springers!( pic)
Hey great job, I got a couple on M-2 SP's in the last week, but I was anchored in 15'-18' and not running any weight.
I think on the back of the package, they mean to troll with 10# dia. line (30# braid) to get them to dive to 20'
Anybody else giving these a try?

OOOOOOOOps I meant M-2 Sp not M-20 Sp  Bob , how would you suggest fishing these in deeper water than 20' will they dive down and be digging around on the bottom with a regular dropper of 24 to 30"?

LS, becouse the M-2 SP dive so deep, I think you're in the ball park on dropper length.
If you go too short they'll be into the bottom.
I'll be working on this to the next couple weeks, and will let you know if come up with something different.
One other thing I fould out a few weeks ago....we were trolling M-2 SP's along side Mag WiggleWarts and Mag Fatfish and the M-2 SP's will out dive them by 3'-5' easy, running the same amount and size line(30# PowerPro)

RM, being they're brand new, they are not in the
Yakima Bait Co online catalog yet.
Next week before I head back fishing, I'll try to get you a sheet with the all color codes.
pm me your mailing address if you want one.

Re: Flatfish M-20 Sp will catch Springers!( pic)
Thanks Bob. Guess that means we can't order them huh? I live in Eastern Oregon and find it difficult to get many of the common baits guys closer to the coast can get their hands on. Would like to purchase several of these to try before heading to the lower Columbia in a couple weeks.
