Default Fish goo on your hook?

So, you've just landed a fish, bonked or released. Either way, your lure or hook has just been removed from the mouth of your prey. Do you make any attempt to wash off the fish slime? Do you think it matters?

Definately leave it on. I have even rubbed the slime all over my lure before instead of using other scents and it works great.

Last fall I hammered a chinook on a Brads wobbler. Lure still had fish slime and blood all over it. Said, "what the hey" and threw it back out. 2 min. later, FISH ON. That told me something. I just can't remember what.

I'm a firm believer of fish slime as a scent! I went fishing for springers on the South Santiam a few years ago. I landed a chinook on a bobber. My friend's cousin came over, and rubbed his yarn and hook all over my fish. I knew what he was doing. He promptly landed one. He changed hooks and leaders, and rubbed the new fish's slime on the yarn and again all over the fish hook, and bottom part of the leader. Can you guess? Fish on, and a limit within 15 minutes of my catch. This was the first time I saw any one do this. I've done it many times now, and had good results.

He caught both, deep in the throat. No eggs, no sand shrimp, no corkie, just yarn.

I was skeptical, so I didn't try it. I only landed the one that day. Coincidence? I dunno, but I do know fresh fish slime does NOT spook fish.

I would get off the blood though, in my opinion.

"Slime On" has been one of my springer secrets for years. I fish with two other guys on a very regular basis and over the last 20 years we have experimented with the "Slime On" theory. My results show that a rig ( leader, bait, hooks etc. ) handled with slime has a 2 to 3 times better chance of getting bit again then one that hasn't been slimed. One of the guys kept a slime infested towel in the boat all season and rubbed it on the fish everytime he caught one. That year was his best year ever. If in my boat and someone else catches a fish you can bet I'm the one who,s going to handle the fish and put it in the box  .

Maybe it's the slime or maybe it's just plain positive thinking, good vibes and confidence?
I'll put my $$$$ on the slime
