Default Help a newbie out?

Hey, im pretty new to bass fishing... ok well i really dont know anything about it. I tried it without success last summer, so i was wondering if anyone was willing to show me the ropes some weekend maybe? I could drive up to hagg or anywhere that isnt too far... anyways, it would be great if some of you experianced guys could show me how its done maybe! THanks!

Is the bass fishing good right now?

Cliff, you should try to find a local bass fishing club in your area. If you join a bass club you will learn a lot about bass fishing in a relatively short time. Most clubs have tournaments or fish-ins where they pair non-boaters with a boater and you could fish a lot of water with some experienced people.

Maybe some guys in the Salem area could steer you in the right direction to find a local club.

I joined a bass club when I was 16 and it was a great experience.

The above link will take you to a site that has a list of Oregon clubs. You might want to check some of them out.

Cliff
I would like to take you out bassin' sometime. When I was your age there was nothing I wanted more than to get into bass fishing but there was no one I knew to help me get started. I will send you a PM sometime later on this spring or early summer and we will hookup and go catch a few.

I would also suggest doing some reading and research on your own. Smallmouth Bass by Dick Sternberg is a great book to start with. There are also several websites that have useful info. And, if you haven't seen it, there was at least one thread last fall that dealt specifically with beginning bass fishing.
I think it's a little slow right now since the water temp. dropped and the river muddied up. Later this week it should be good again.
Drop me a PM if you would like to hit the Willamette from the bank in Portland.

Cliff, I think it is great that you are willing to drive up to portland in an effort to learn from other ifishers. It shows you have a desire to to improve your fishing abilities. I also think joining a local club is a fine idea and reading up on research material will strengthen your knowledge of how to pursue the bass. There is no substitute however for being on the water. The best learning tool is time spent in a boat or from the bank. As a result, I would like to extend an invite to you for a trip on the Willamette. So check your email, you have a PM.
