Default Sturge in Astoria

Is it too early to fish around the John Day or Hammond? I will need to start keeping a log so I can remember when to fish different areas. Do the Sturge follow the smelt in from the Big Blue? If so, wouldn't the fishing be better at the coast and then continue up the river with the smelt migration?

Thankyou,

It's not to early to catch and release down in that area, I made a couple of trips in December that were pretty good. I would however suggest fishing upriver for awhile. The sturgeon will follow the smelt migration upriver. I will start making trips down to the estuary in mid May, it is usually pretty good then without the hords of people.
