My experience with horses tells me to use a .357 to correct their behavior. On the other hand my dog and I will enjoy the electric start and the 1 mile ride to the duck blind thank you. And as far as toting around close to 100 bigfoots, the ATV with a proper ATV trailer is just what the farmer ordered, horses leave big tracks (AKA Holes) in the winter wheat. But if you are thinking big game, it can stay at home. Of course we blame ATV's for road hunting, but you never could get most of those guys out of their trucks anyway. Same guys different rig. What gets me is the Bowhunting roadhunters on ATV's. What is with that? Probably rifle/road hunters that can't seem to complete the transition. They probably are snaggers too!

I'm not against people that use ATVs in a responsible manner they are a very usefull piece of equiptment and good clean fun too. but I was elk hunting opening day in area that most would'nt drive into. {I walked in} The elk are there but here comes two ATVs and spooked the herd and then for the next five minutes listened to them chase the elk off the mountain. END OF HUNT

Sorry to hear about your hunt. I really wonder about the usefullness of Quads for big game hunting during the hunting season. Sure they got to be alot more fun during the preseason scouting and such. But it seems that in the majority of the areas I've hunted in OR , you might as well just use your 4X4 if your on public land. Save the 4000$ you might spend on the Quad. Seems like I see more of them all the time. Mainly on trailers on the interstate.
I'm not against them when people use them for basic transport before and after shooting hours and at midday, but they sure seem to screw other people up when used to hunt around off trail all day during the season. I got a quiet 4 stroke trail bike I'll use at times, mainly for preseason scouting. I think I use it in a manner that doesn't screw other hunters over.
I think horses are great. Unfortunatly it's a lifestyle the average guy can't afford and /or make time for. In addition a motorcycle ridden responsibly has less impact on trails than a horse overall in my opinion.

I have a quad but I only use it for packing out dead animals when necessary. It is a 4-stroke and is better than a horse for me. I do not hunt from it and I have only shot 1 deer in my life seen while driving a vehicle. Walking into areas seems to be the most enjoyable and productive way to hunt for me.

I like my mountainbike. I have ridden up on coyotes, deer and elk without them realizing that I was there. Can't do that with any motorized vehicle. I do get some funny looks when I pack a deer out on the bike, but hey, it sure beats a 2 mile hike or drag.
