Whats the best fishing line these days?
I finally have a nice new setup that's capable of the new high tech dacron/braided line, I've never used it before, what are you guys using thats really worked out well for you? It's for my Sturgeon setup for boat fishing. My setup is a Daiwa 50HSD & a 7' Lamiglass Sturgeon special. I fish the Columbia River in the Camas area & above, Maybe Bonneville once in awhile. I was over at Fisherman's & the options are overwelming.

Some kind of braided line. Hell...I have used Power Pro, Tuff Line, SpiderWire and everything else and for sturgeon I dont know that there is much difference btweeen them all. I am sure someone here will have a different opinion though

Re: Whats the best fishing line these days?
I was turned on to Tuf line XP plus this past weekend by FSHKLR. The plus adds a coating to make it more forgiveable on mono and your guides. I have always liked the tough line XP on most apps as it lasts long, doesnt break very often (65lb) and is very sensitive(sometimes too sensitive). Mono is still great though as it is easy and it works.

Hey baby, catching anything?
What's a nice kid like you doing fishing a hole like this?
Seriously though, I use mono still. Big Game for 20# test and up. Ultra Green for under 20#.

Re: Whats the best fishing line these days?
The only downside to braided line I have heard is that it pops out of standard downrigger clips easy. If that is not your application then the point is mute.

Q: Whats the best fishing line these days?
A: Your Springer or Mine?!!!
Seriously though..they are all good!
I prefer Toughline PLUS though as I fish in many places where my line will come in contact with other using mono!! It is mono friendly to a degree when fishing with other guys using heavy mono..30# or better and you don't horse a guys line in or intentionally try to rip his gear.
It is Vinyl coated and very smooth and doesn't sound like a hacksaw on your guides when you reel it in.
50# bobber fishing nooks..30# bobber for Steel...65# in the boat.

Re: Whats the best fishing line these days?
Either Tuf Line or Powerpro. I would go bigger, like 65-80 lb. just so that it is easy to work with when tying knots. The yellow stuff is sure easy to see in the water, so you may want to think about that if you don't care about camo color line. John

Re: Whats the best fishing line these days?
I love the spiderwire stealth braided line. It works well in either 50 or 65 lb test. The heavier the line, the harder it is to keep down. In my opinion this is the best for the money. Its pretty cheap compared to some of the other lines out there. This is just what has worked for me. Hope this helps.

Re: Whats the best fishing line these days?
Tuff XP or Stren Superbraid, 80 lb for sturgies. Bobs has the Stren on sale right now, I think 6 or 7 cents a yard for the 80lb.
