Re: Second Season Rocky Mountain Elk
Like Cagey, we got skunked. Hard to figure out with all the good sign and our location. A buddy had a blacktail doe come an visit within 30 feet of him. Some excellent views of Mt. Hood in all it's glory though. Discovered some new places so all was not lost. Wish we had some weather though, it could have changed the rules of the game. Oh well... might as well start planning next year's hunt.
On a side note, if you have a lame hunting partner, for whom you just keep around for humor's sake, and he tells you that an area doesn't look promising, GO THERE FIRST! We went there last and saw the remains of elk from those more successful. Even saw an old Datsun car with a big branch antlered rack sticking out of the trunk. At first I thought it was funny, and then I realized the joke was on me. Someone got a good (lucky) elk car just like that for sale?
