Default Washington Pigs!

Whew boy! I bet that subject line stirred some blood pressures. Hence the pre-emptive attack of Graemlins.

Now for the nitty gritty. It's been starting to leak out that there is a feral hog population starting to boom on the Olympic Penninsula. Anybody been hunting them? Are they all on private land? Where are the biggest populations? What type of tactics are required? So many questions... What? What? What?

This really sounds like fun and the thought of some wild pork sounds kind of tantilizing. All information greatly appreciated and I promise I will never start a subject the same caliber of deceit.

There is some information on the wdfw page. It list a sporting goods store to contact for more info. There is also some info flying around on Ted Nugents web site hunting BB about it. I think I may take a trip up in the spring.

The pigs are only about 20 miles from my house, and there are fair numbers of them, but you need to get permission for the private land they are on. There are a few that sneak onto the public lands in the area. The area between the Nooch and the Satsop is the basic area. I went scouting for them one day, and located a group on private land, but could not get permission.

One of my logging clients has seen a few on Weyerhauser land (hint).

No limit on them so if you find a, what do you call a bunch of pigs, oh yeah, Oregonians (JK ), take as many as you can.

Some of these bad boys are up to 300 pounds. Bring a BIG rifle with BIG bullets, .308 Win would probably be a minimum with 180 grain bullets. I'll be heading out with my .30-06 or .300 Win Mag as some of these dudes have tusks, and they should be considered "DANGEROUS GAME".

They are out there, but I have yet to see any on public land, yet.

Here piggy, piggy, piggy.

So, since there is no limit or regs on them....How do you bait a wild boar??? Might be a good tactic to lure them to public huntin' grounds...

What I originally heard about them was you didn't need a hunting license to hunt for them either.

I don't know about the baiting thing, but you are correct about no license needed.

The big thing is that you should not be in possession of a large centerfire rifle, in an open deer unit, during modern rifle deer or elk season without either an unnotched deer, elk, bear or cougar tag. That will get you a ticket.

Man, I expected quite a different post than this!

Still, does anyone know a rancher, etc., in the Prineville or Antelope areas that is allowing hunting on their land for the feral pigs loose there?

You weren't trolling around for a confrontational post were you?

This is what the "networks" call "selling ratings".
