Yum works just as well as senkos. I have probably caught more fish off of Yum. The only thing with Yum is that they work better when the hook is tied directly onto the line where as with senkos you can use a swivel

Although the Senko has slightly more weight to it, in my opinion, it is only marginal.

The Yum's and other similar plastics are just as good and quite obviously cheaper and more come in a package.

I catch fish on both, but have been leaning towards Yum for their quality and much better price.

Personally I prefer senkos. When the bite is on the yums work great but on days when the fishing is tuff I seem to switch to my go to's and senkos fall in that catagory.

Caught a lot of fish on the YUM....especially like the price and the little slot for your hook point to rest in.

I haven't seen any senko jig trailers so I'll stick with yum. For what I use the senko type baits for the yum work well and are alot cheaper.

If price is an issue try buying them off ebay you can get 50 of them for under 10 busks all the time a bunch on right now are 50 for 4 bucks, ya can't beat that even if the baits aren't quite as good though the two guys i have bought from both have excellent baits..

Well "liteline" you should have a pretty good selection now after your binge at Fishermans yesterday. I hope you'll think about leaving some for others in the future.

I'm like Rob Allen when it comes to buying tackle, I get some off the internet and some from the local tackle stores.

I give credit to Wannabe for turnning me on to YUM Dingers. It was'nt like I did not know about them in the first place, but in the fall of 2003 he showed me some of the colors he likes and were most likely to have success in our Oregon waters. I have had great success with them since then and fish them as much if not more then the Senko's.

I feel your pain and finally found an online store that has free ground shipping which makes a big difference. I have bought several items from there the last 2 years. More than my wife would care to know!!

Check it out....

Sandz,
Fishermans has about the best selection I know now. They have almost 14 feet of YUM products including Dingers up to 6 inches. They also have added quit a bit of other stuff too and more is coming.

Senko are better than the knockoffs! If price is the main reason you buy then go to EBAY. You should really have some of all of them. Senko's have tons more salt and the fish will hold on longer. I use Yum diggers the most but I would fish nothing but senkos if the price was the same. I use the Ebay senko TYPE lures for drop shot fishing, the EBAY lures are MUCH stiffer than all the rest. Cold water or low light use Senko or put sent on the others to up your odds, thats when bass hit lures with lots of salt or some kind of sent. Senko has the best action of them all too. But price is a big consideration and thats why I fish yum the most (but I always carry Senkos when I go fishing). If the bass will hit a knockoff then use a knockoff. If I fish Silver Lake I will only use Senkos and that because Silver has monsters and I do not cut corners when a monster bass are a posibility. AS FOR SIZE, 90% of the senko type lures I own are 3 inches long!!!!!!! Yes at times thats not my first choise but 90% of the time it is my HOT BAIT! Have you tryed a 3 inch senko yet?

I dont know about the whole Senko frenzy thing. I mean sure they are my go to bait but like everyone else has said Yum is cheaper. I have fished at Hagg throwing out every color of Senko I had and then I tied on a blue and black Yum and I ended up catching 3 bass that were in the 3-4 pound range. I use senkos most of the time but I have to say that Yum has better color selection.

My #1 senko type lure COLOR is the Senko brand pupkin with green flake. I stick mostly to the natural colors: green, brown & smoke. But I carry most of the colors  for all brands.
I have spanked the small mouth bass on a 2 inch senko type lure also .

I dig the 3" Senkos as well, but they are such horridly flimsy plastics when it comes down to catching fish. They get torn to bits and very rarely last more than two fish. Yeah, they catch fish, no doubt! But seriously...6 bucks for 10 of these things? Super glue will help a ton with these, but they are only slightly superior to just biting off the extra inch from another stick plastic.

Yes, I continue to buy them and yes I catch a crapload of fish with them... But, I have gained confidence in the less expensive plastics and have a hard time justifying the price gouge that comes with Gary Yamamoto products these days.

Man, if those 3" senkos were just about 4 dollars cheaper...what a perfect size for just about any biting bass! Hey Roger, do they cut any deals for guides these days? I know the guys on the John day are stocked up with them.

Ok people, How is everyone today?? I have yet to fish with type of worm / soft plastic. Coming from Alabama my primary worm of choice was the culprit 7" red shad or grape shad worms but all this senko talk has got my interest peeked. I would like a little info about how to rig them and fish them if you guys don't mind sharing.

Thanks,
AR

I'm Glad you asked!
You have three main ways the Senko type lure is rigged.
1. Texas rig 3-6 inch senkos! [image] [/image]
2. Drop shot (3inch works great)
3. Wacky style.
If you have any questions on any of the rigs just ask!
This is the hottest lure to hit the water out in the old west . I like to toss a 3 inch but you may like to start out with a 4 or 5 inch senko. You fish this lure with NO wt. The lure has tons of action as it falls. Lots of people skip them under docks. Just cast it to a good target let it fall to the bottom of the lake (watch your line). reel in the slack now lift you rod and the lure about 4-6 inches off the bottom. As you lift your rod tip also check to see if you have a fish if so~~~ SET THE HOOK! I like to shake my rod tip about 4-6 times moving the lure only about 4-6 inches total. Then I drop my rod, let the lure fall back to the bottom. Then reel in the slack line and lift or shake (let the fish tell you what they like. I use light wire hooks for better hookups (it's easer to get the hook point in to the fish. It's a great small mouth lure (drop shot is HOT for small mouth). If you rip your senko type lure then fish it wacky or put the hook on the other end (it works fine). You will catch more bass on this lure and big bass love em too.

I usually just TX-rig a 3-4" with a splitshot about 18" from the hook. Roger summed it up nicely though.

Rodger did a great job of explaining how to rig and fish it . I like to fish it with no weight as Rodger suggested . The hardest part is waiting for it to sink without a weight on . It has a great way that it falls without a weight , but it is hard to give it the time reguired to sink with river current . I think that is why the fish like it is because it will twist and tumble while on it's way to the bottom .

Some days it seems the fish are very particular as to how your bait falls. Other days they don't seem to care about fall rate. On those days when it's important, use senkos or rig your knockoffs accordingly. On those other days, it seems senkos do not out fish the knockoffs.

Alabama,

check out bass dozer's site and click on the expert articles link. He has an entire section devoted to Senkos and there is even an article there by the inventor, Gary Yamamoto. In the article he writes about how he fishes a senko.

www.bassdozer.com

I'm with Roger on the effectiveness of the Senko but I wouldn't limit myself to just the Senko. I just grabbed a bag of tiki sticks and hope to grab a bag on Dingers too.

I've picked up some Yum Dinger's, but haven't tried them yet. The right time to test new stuff is when you're catching, vs. fishing, ya know.

I can report that the Tiki Stik is a good bait. It's lighter, slower falling, not a lot cheaper, and not noticeably more durable than the Senko. The scent of the Tiki Stik seems quite good, IMO. C&R, Steve

IMO Charlie Case's Magic Stiks are cheaper and more durable than Stenko's. But his killer bait is Jack's Worm; deadly! Send him a SASE with two stamps and he'll send you three of your choice for free! Round up the usual disclaimers re: affliation.
