Default Sea Anchors

Just a question as to how long a rope do you use on your sea anchors, when anchored, to keep the boat in line. Never used them before and want to get them right.

that will depend on the size of boat and the location where you'll be tying them off. I like mine to sit about 3 feet behind the transom.

Mine have about 6 feet from the loop to the top of the harness of the anchor. If you're making them, get a little crab float and put it on the rope, so that when it inevitably gets dropped in the water, you'll be able to recover it.

I use about 5' of rope tied off to the cleats on each side of the boat that are about 6 in. forward of the transom. so I guess mine are about 3 1/2 feet behind my 19' boat and it works well. I have pretty big drift socks too.

I have a couple sizes. One is extra large that is helpful during slow current and can be used in conjunction with anchor rope attachment points for creative boat positioning.
