Default Willamette Smallie on the Fly 3/25 ( pics )

Well, since everyone was talking about catching one on the fly, I decided to give it a try. I brought out the 5wt and the 7wt, but seemed like the 7 wt. was better due to the wind, and the weighted flies I was tossin.

I made some articulated bunny lizards and used them just as though i were draggin regular plastics. I tried black and olive, but the only one that caught fish was the olive lizard (watermelon)

This was a fat, fat, little girl! Had great color to her and fought like a freight train!

She was caught along a riprap bank in about 6 feet of water.

Thanks again for the Fly Idea!!! Was a kick in the pants fighting it on THAT rod!

Nice fish

Thats a great looking fly. If you could get that down to 14ft to 20ft of water, I know you could catch a ton of smallies on that fly. If we get some more warm weather in April, 6ft will be deep enough for a couple of weeks.

Well done! I've done a fair amount of bass flyfishing around Ross Island and Sellwood, I caught my first fish on a black bunny leech similar to that fly. I've also had luck with small chartruese epoxy minnows and small muddler type surface patterns later in the year.
If you don't mind my asking, what type of line were you using? I've always used sink tips and floaters, but I think an intermediate line would work best.
