Default Shift Cable

Anybody out there ever install the shift cable that runs to the outdrive. I have a mercruiser outdrive. I was just curios how tough a job this might be. I've worked on alot of cars a pickups but never the boat. Any advice, recommendations, or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I just did that job on my OMC outdrive, not a huge job but still a little scary. Just pulling the outdrive off for the first time was the big step for me. I can't really tell you what you are going to find since we have two different drives but with a manual it is not too big a job, good luck on your project.

Theoretically it should be like pulling wire in a house. Tape the new cable to the old and pull. A little liquid detergent on the new cable can make it easier. Sometimes people use the old cable as support and cable tie other wires to it. You will need to free it from any restrictions before pulling. It is best to get a friend to help. That way one can pull and the other can guide the cable if there are any openings that he can peer into.
