Default Swan Island

Did the same as I did all last year on Friday. Hook a fish, realed it to the boat, then let it spit the sharp, no super sharp hook's back at me --- at the boat. When will it stop Anyhow mark a lot of fish in the morning, but saw no other net's fly.

loosen the drag when the fish gets near the boat.....the thrashing of the fish will pull the hook everytime.....take your thumb off the spool.....at least thats been my expirence for getting fish in the boat....never let them thrash

Also..... remember you not need to set the hook so hard when using braided line.... and sometimes even mono. The hook rips the flesh and hangs by a thread...... after even a little battle it comes out. The motion of the fish and your trolling boat is good enough to set the hook, then take it easy...... no need to just yard the fish in. Give and Take, Give and Take! Remember... the fish will tire out long before you will! We hope.

That is great technique unless Hershel is fishing close by too

Just based on other posts it may be wise to favor a little tighter drag and getem in! I would rather loose a fish then feed a sea lion
