Default Game Processing in the Newport Area

A friend of mine who is new to the Newport area got himself a deer this last weekend and was wanting some input on a good meat processor in that area............any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
JK

I finished a deer last night in about 90 minutes from start to finish. A good knife, and some practice has cut my time down a lot, 25 deer and 5 elk that I have helped to butcher. I only use a few select cuts for steaks like the back strap and a few steaks from the rump. The rest goes into sausage or burger for grinding.

Here's a link that goes over the basics of butchering.
butcher it yourself

Sometimes it helps to know what to do in case you are in the hills and need to do something yourself.

Thanks Andy,
Since I usually put all of my venison into sausage, except for the back strap such as yourself, I always do all my own de-boning at home before I take it in to the processor. This saves me about $40-$45 dollars per animal (buck and doe usually) in processing fee's which makes the cost much more affordable. My friend however, is looking for a place in the Newport area where he can have it processed for him into sausage and maybe some jerky........anybody with any suggestions?

Thanks,
JK

Artwo,

Try Joe Trask at Siletz Valley Meat Locker in Siletz. Makes some killer processed meats. Does fish too ! Good Luck !
