Default Hi- I\'m Mel and I have a problem

Well... more than just one problem, but this is the one I want to talk about today:

We are still cleaning out the old place and moving. This weekend I moved "The Fishing Room" out of the old garage. Man, I have WAY to much gear. I filled the pickup (yes - it's full sized) level with the gunnels. No saltwater gear here either (that all resides full time on Miss B), this is just the fresh water stuff, steelhead, springer, trout, walleye, bass, panfish, carp, frog, crawdad, sturgeon, fly, spin, casting, nets, traps, etc etc etc stuff.

I have enough lead to qualify as a super fund site (no EPA folks on board here are there ?) I'm dang sure. What does a guy really need 20 or 25 15 lb cannon balls for anyway. And what about a hunert pounds of 32 ozer's? I did figure out I had a low front tire after putting all that lead in. See...it is good for something. And how about all those shiny steelhead and Salmon plugs? Let's see- I have not seriousley river fished for about 10 years. And those old broken poles? You never know when you might find a matching tip laying around to go with that perfectly good butt section right? How come the butts never break?

Well anyway.... I guess I'm a fishaholic packrat.

I've never been able to part with any of it, I could probably retire and live off selling it all on e-bay....but I won't! It would have been nice to get rid of BEFORE I moved it but now I figure I've got another 25 years without needing to touch it again.

Mel,

Have you started on the Miss B Haven? An old commercial fisherman friend used to go down to the boat before the season started (way before the season started) and would sit for hours and meditate. After clearing his head, he would start looking at all the junk and start making piles of stuff that was useful and not used in years.

He swore that his boat rode at least 2-3" higher in the water after he got done.

I trolled past the lonely Miss B on Sunday. Even the seagulls were ignoring the old girl. So I pitched my extra herring up on the bridge to get some life back aboard the old hull. Did you leave the doors and windows open on purpose? You probably should have left the shore power plugged in. What kind of animals are nesting in the settee? Did they lower the roof of the moorage, or is the dock riding high? Radar units aren't too expensive, are they? Bummer how the piling fell over like that! Did the marina quit their garbage service, or are your dock-mates just too lazy to carry it all the way up to the road? It's really piling up on the deck.

Pete this is low. Mel is going to be fit to be tied. When he gets done moving he's going to have to spend some time in the get even department.

I'm eternally in Mel's debt ... there is one fact in my statement, but I'm not telling what it is.

Tuni says I get to spend a weekend on Miss B after we close on the 15th. I'm not sure that's really where I want to spend my first "weekend off" since Sept 1st there though. I know I've got at least two full weekends just to get the cobwebs and spider dung off; that is of course unless those nesting birds ate all the spiders! Glad to see your keeping the odiferous ambiance as well as my bait supply up to snuff Pete!

Sensei- I go through her at least once a year, usually twice: that is when I get to use her at all (which wasn't this last year). It is amazing how much stuff can collect over a season, and of course a boat (even a "big" boat) just isn't very big. I guess that's why the "land based fishing storage room" was so full!

Take two 16 oz cannon balls and call me in the morning.

Hi my wifes name is Deb. and she has the same problem.
Except she hates to fish and has no gear .
My wife is a Pack-rat .
We just moved in October .. I called for a large dumpster to be delivered at my old home .
My self and my son spend several days tossing junker items that were slowly petrifying.

It was like magic at the new house. We found our selves loading and moving the exact same items we had tossed just a few days earlier .
She had actually snuck back into teh dumpster with the cover of darkness and saved the precious *&%$ oh sorry "stuff".
