I get their best group 24 marine / RV/deep cycle battery they sell and never though about asking what the cold cranking amps were for their battery.,

I don't think you want "Marine/Deep Cycle", UNLESS you're going to use the battery as a starting AND deep cycle battery. I think batteries labled "Marine Starting" are simply regular batteries that are stronger to endure the pounding that they're likly to get in marine applications. They are maybe made to produce more CCA considering the tougher enviroment that they're expected to perform in.

I have an Optima Blue Top and I am overly happy with it.

There is a handful of manufactures that supply batterys to hundreds of retailers. Your application only requires about 400 cca. Any group 24 battery will exceed that rating and give you plenty of reserve. My advice would be a name brand cranking battery.

Hello DAB, I'd suggest playing it safe and make that TWO batteries, especially with Joes having 'em on sale, then add a Perko switch (easily wired) and it'll be no-worries for ya!

1pump's battery rule:

Stuff the biggest, baddest battery that you can find and afford and will physically fit in the box/tray. The more amps the better. Can't have too many amps.
Gel batteries are nice since you can intall them on their sides or ends and they're dimensionally smaller in most cases. Downside is the $$.

We're getting a new boat at work and it's gonna have 2 Oddyseys. Should be interesting.
