Re: Duck Openner
In an attempt to avoid the maylay at Sauvie, we hunted a great eddy on the Deschutes that had produced before. Saw lots of high flying birds, but came home empty handed.
Truth be told, ducks or no ducks, the duck opener is always a great kickoff to fall.

Re: Duck Openner
Limits for a partner and myself on Saturday. Lower columbia. Woulda been done real early if our shooting woulda been better.
Watch the tides. We had to wrangle a boat that drifted free for some guys and stranded them.
Lotsa teal.

Re: Duck Openner
Drifted the Clack on Sat and Sunday for ducks and coho. Kept 2 nice coho hens on Saturday and also got some mallards and a drake wood duck. Sunday drifted again and came home w/ another 2 coho. Released one dark fish and lost another chromer at the boat. 7 mallards on the way down as well. Both of these were quick half-day trips. Great weekend for ducks and fish.

Re: Duck Openner
WOW Birdhunter, I want to be just like you when I grow chrome!! Seriously, sound like a great weekend. I'm more than a little jealous.
I spent the weekend introducing my new-to-the-area brother and his son (and choc lab)to the perils of an 8:00am Shillapo release pheasant circus. Thirty hunters and thirty-five dogs through the gate at 8 equals pandemonium!! Can make a good dog lose his feather-pickin mind.
Visited my lease at Sauvie Isl but it was just a fly-by as there is no water and will be no ducks for another month.
Thanks to all for the info.

Re: Duck Openner
I spanked a limit on Tuesday on Lower Columbia River. This rain will surely help for things to come. A mixed bag of birds. nullnull

Wed was not too bad on Sauvie. Ducks flew most of the day, not red hot, but I managed 5.

Re: Duck Openner
Good to hear you guys got some shooting on Sauvie's. I saw tons of mallards out there early in the morning while pheasant hunting.
Don't worry about the jokes on shooting up the dekes I do alot of diver hunting out of a layout boat, and my poor bluebill dekes have got some scars
