Default Specs, Snows and Cacks at Sauvies...

Well the geese are showing up in pretty good numbers from what I can tell. While finishing out the fee pheasant hunt on Saturday, we saw 2 good size flocks of Specs, a flock of Snows and several flocks of Cacklers. All were flying high and coming out of the north. (imagine that)

Anybody seen any increase in the ducks?

Pheasant hunting turned out pretty good. We hunted for 3 hours without seeing a bird and only heard one shot. Moved to another unit and shot 4 birds in ten minutes. Gotta love the chickens.

While in the Cascades, we saw big flocks of specs flying over the mountains toward Klamath. All day long you'd hear and see them. Way way high. I've got some good spots picked out for local ducks this next weekend. Haven't really seen migrants showing up yet.

Went out to the island today....didn't get there till late late morning....drove around to where I thought I might see some birds feeding.....nothing...even the blackbirds were somewhere else. The island has, IMHO, the most feed on it I have ever seen. There shouldn't be a problem holding the bulk of them at this end of the valley. With the majority of the refuges without planting budgets the island may be the place for this
season. The geese will surely hit all of the new truck farming that sprung up this year.
As much as they like the barley shoots etc they do love to hollow out the cucumbers and
squash after they begin to break-down.

I think I'll pass on the opener and chase a grouse...just to hot...besides I don't have any camo T shirts or bermuda shorts!!
