Look be for you back up!!!!!
Last August a lady rear ended my wife, car fixed and she is on the mend, today some guy in a hurry back's into our Subaru Outback and I just got the message from my wife, she told the guy, that my husband is going to be XXXX not happy with this news.
I think he doesn't have insurance as he wants to pay for the damage, I really don't care if he does or don't, as long as it get taken care of.
I think our next auto is going to be a tank, now hit me.

Re: Look be for you back up!!!!!
You need to get the cops involved asap before he really hurts someone and can't pay for it.

I wouldn't worry about him paying for it himself - I have done that. The way insurance works, sometimes it's worth it if the damage isn't too bad.

Re: Look be for you back up!!!!!
I disagree SH. He probably doesn't have insurance and shouldn't be allowed on the road. What if the next person that he hits is you and the repair/medical bills are too much money for him to pay? Yes, your insurance should cover it but then what happens to your rates?
And what is the reason for him not being insured? Suspended license due to DUIs perhaps, too many accidents? Nope...Get'm off the road.

Re: Look be for you back up!!!!!
It may have been a simple accident, and the guy doesn't want his insurance rates to sky-rocket.
I had a friend who hit a parked car a few months ago, and it was his own freely admitted stupid mistake.
Rather than have his insurance double for the next 5 years, he pulled out a check, and paid for the guy's repairs. Cost was about $350, and his insurance would have mounted to roughly $4000 extra, so it was a no-brainer.
These days insurance is just protection money anyway.
I have been having problems the last couple of years, because a college chick accused me of hitting her parked car. Funny thing was, I wasn't anywhere near her car, and I had a friend with me the whole night (it was his birthday) who backed me up 100%. She ended up winning in arbitration, because the cop that filed the report was her boyfriend's brother, and wrote a 5 page report that "damage on my car was consistent with..." even though there was no damage of any kind on my car, not even a paint scratch.
I'm still paying through the nose, because even though my record is clear, my "clue report" brings up an at-fault accident, for which $500 was paid out in arbitration. My insurance rate hike as a result has amounted to $2000 in three years because of this.
I for one say, file an accident report, and make sure to get the guy's info, just in case. If he is really willing to pay damages, he will be willing to pay a deposit based on an estimate from a body shop, which you can go get in less than an hour, and usually free.
Another thing to remember is that even though you were not at fault for either of these two accidents, if you have too many no-fault accidents, your insurance company will consider you to be a risk, and drop you, or raise your rates. This has happened to two of my neighbors.
Cheers,
L

I will second that. I had two that I've paid for over the years out of my pocket. One was because I had another reportable one 24 hours earlier. The last one was a month ago, bent a guys license plate backing up - didn't see him.
It is common to pay for little ones - and yes I have insurance -

Re: Look be for you back up!!!!!
About a year ago I was backing my F-350 crewcab into a parking spot and the backup sensors alarmed me there was something behind me, which I ignored because I thought it was a small tree so I got closer and closer slowly... and then was abrubtly stopped, looked in the side mirror to see I hit a parked car with the owner sitting inside. After I apologized and showed my embaeassment we both inspected the damage which was the result of my trailer hitch putting a nickle sized dent in his front license plate which I straightened with my hands. Yet this was not satisfactory for this gentleman as he wanted to see the damaage behind the license plate. So I offered to remove it because I carry a toolbox in the truck, he allowed me to remove the plate, we found a crease or divit in a plastic trim piece that wraps around the front bumper from one end to the other. The divit was about the size that your index fingernail could set in. I looked at him as I recieved a "squeemish" look back and immediately got a cold feeling in my gut. I offered to pay for the part and help him install it, all the while he was gritting his teeth, as he replied that he would feel more comfortable if he could see my insurance card and drivers license,BTW I carry full coverage auto insurance in Oregon. I could not believe it. Really the only damage was cosmetic and hidden behind the license plate. So here we go.
As were parting "the scene" I apologized again and did mention that it would be nice if this was'nt reported to the insurance for something as petty as such. He handed me his business card if I needed to contact him......Yah thats right he was a State Farm Insurance Agent
About three days later I get a phone call from My auto insurance provider letting me know a claim had been filed against me. I just laughed and told my side of the story.
I'm the first one that will report an auto accident to cover my A$$ and to protect future motorists from people who are'nt carrying insurance but just as in this case there can be exceptions.... especially from the "Gem" I was dealing with who knew exactly what he was after.
Thanks for listening, My name is Garry and I was not paid to write this, I need to sit down now. Thanks for letting me vent. I feel better now. Excuse me, could you hand me a cigarette. Thank You.

Norski/Dad
First I must say that I hope my step mother is alright and the care gets fixed no matter who fixes it!
You have to admit when you are in the car with her all you do is bite you nails and look out the side window so you dont have to see whats in front of you!!! Her driving scares me and I know that you (dad) do most of the driving! Yes I think that you should buy her a tank next time you buy a new rig for her!
Hey drive safe coming over the mountain today, cant wait to see you this evening.

So, what you are saying here, is that this cop, filed a fraudulent report and you have suffered actual damages as a result of his action. I would think that a competent attorney would be pleased to have a case like this drop into thier lap. Or maybe there is more to this story than appears on the surface? (usualy is).

My son (96 S-10) rear ended a guy (69 F-150) last summer. They both had insurance but the guy said "pay me $20" and let's call it good. Turns out the guy had a similar accident when he was a teen...paid through the nose for five years.
My son was very thankful since he already pays $710/6mo.
The guy had one request...when you get older and some kid "bumps" you; pass it on.

Re: Look be for you back up!!!!!
Heres a good one. Last summer my unkle go nailed by a hit and run at a stop sign.. The guy did'nt get far as there was so much damage to his car he only made it about a half mile up the road. Turns out, he was an illeagle alien. Had no drivers licence or insurance. In the end it wound up in court. He had to pay a 100 dollar fine for no insurance, he got a drivers licence suspension for 1 year ( remember thats a licience he never had in the first place...) and was ordered to pay medical and for my uncles car..
So where is this guy going to get that kind of money ?? fact is he has just vanished, because on paper he never existed in this country anyway.. Heres the killer.. when they left the court house this dude got in a car and drove away.. never to be seen again.

Re: Look be for you back up!!!!!
Don't be the nice guy who gets screwed, call the cops and file a report, contact your insurance company immediately. Get the ball rolling and not only get your car fixxed but protect yourself down the road. But, do what your conscience leads you to do but weigh the facts first. Liability is not somthing to take lightly.

Re: Look be for you back up!!!!!
Just food for thought. He may in fact pay for the vehicle damage, but what about your wife. She was already hurt once. What if this one aggrivates her other injuries. Won't be cheap to cover outta your own pocket. Just my .02

Re: Look be for you back up!!!!!
Hey Leif,
The amount of the damage is the big thing. Having been through this I will offer a couple of different views. If the dollar amount is over the amount that the law requires you to report it, do it. Don’t wait.
If it’s not, still make sure that you get all of his insurance information. Having employees I had a deal worked out with my agent that anytime something happened that he would call me and ask me if I wanted to pay for it or did I want them to.
Also another point that I would warn you about is that if the guy wants to give you payments, make sure you go into it thinking you may never see all the money. Otherwise I would want all of it up front. Good luck!
Pete
