Default Anyone else stuck w/ General tags?

Western Oregon General Buck Season Opener! Wooo hoo! Hmmm. Doesn't quite have the same ring to it as the Mulie opener does.

Okay, I didn't draw my Eastern Oregon deer tag this year so it looks like blacktail for me. Not that I mind the dog-deer. Put them in your pocket and pack them out. I'm actually kidding. We got 3 blacktail last year that were as big as most mulies. Dressed they went 140-170. Good farm bucks. I'd still stay away from the coast though, unless you want a real dink.

So I guess my point is that I'm hunting outside of Tiller in the Cascades for deer opening weekend. I'm actually more excited about the prospect of killing some more grouse or a bear. Anyone else going to try to nail one of the those elusive buggers this weekend? Cascades or Coast? Let's hear it.

General tags for me also... I can not believe not even a Heppner deer tag. I think I will wait until We get some more rain I bet the forrest are still noisy and cracklin dry. The duck opener is just around the corner, we could use rain for that one also.

I guess I get to Fish more until then.

Oh Ya...I'll be crawlin' around through the wet clearcuts. I still believe a good blacktail buck is one of huntings toughest trophies to obtain. They hide like mice in the brush!...only come out in the dark.

I do hear the Willamette Valley and farmland gives 'em up a bit more easily.

That's OK. I just like goin' anyway.

I love hunting Blacktails, until about 10 years ago, it was all I knew. That being said, I would normally wait until November to start hunting seriously. A buddy has got the urge, so the poles go into the closet for just this weekend and I am going up to the base of Mary to whisper thru the brush. Hope it ain't too crackly. Northside Mulies next year.

Blacktail hunting is the best, I love it. This year I will be using my balcktail tactics in the White river unit. Leaving bright and early in the morning. If you havent done a lot of hunting on the west side it is best to wait for some rain and a bit later in the season. I shot my biggest buck on halloween a few years ago. a big 4x5 that dressed close to 200. That was a big blacktail. There are a lot of them around just be patient and hunt slow. Good luck and Everyone stay safe.
