Default hunting partner ripped off

I just got a call from my long time hunting partner. He had a new garage door opener and a couple garage door springs installed yesterday at his house. This morning the door is opened (after he closed it last night) and all his hunting stuff is gone.

Leupold Spotting scope, Zeiss 10x40 glasses, GPS, radio's, freighter packboard, elk calls, tool box, fanny pack, PSE carrol bow, and extra box or arrows, release etc etc...

His homeowners insurance will cover it in a slow way, with hunting season starting saturday and him planning on taking his 12 year old boy out for his first hunt, time is of the essence. I am glad his guns werent in the garage.

His insurance told him this morning he has a replacement cost policy and he needs to give them the model numbers and they will mail him his new equipment. If he wants the cash to go shopping himself, he will get the depreciated value

I guess he will find out how good his homeowners insurance is before this is over. We will make it hunting on some backup equipment this weekend, but the flustrations is unbelievable.

My guess is the garage door man is the prime suspect. He only lost his hunting equipment and his tool box which was next to the equipment. The person did not touch his 3 mountain bikes, portable air compressor, and a ton of other stuff in his garage. Some of the hunting equipment was in the back of the garage on a shelf, some out front. Who ever ripped him off, seemed to know where the hunting equipment was and got it all. Funny all the stuff they left that was worth more money and just as easy to carry off. Who would take a box of arrows when a mountain bike was sitting there?? I guess his 2 jet skis and 4 wheeler were to heavy to carry off.

Anybody seeing a bunch of stuff for sale, let me know.

bait o eggs, kind a funny it happened right after the garage door opener was installed, could be aquaintances of who ever installed it or even the installer, when new the codes should be changed so no one else can program there own opener dk

I recentely had a few guns stolen from my garage and that is when I discovered Oregon is a replacement state. Insurance companies don't replace guns so they gave me the value they detirmened my guns to be worth minus 5% for each year I owned it. I tried to argue that guns don't deprciate but they didn't care. (example: my old lever action .308 was determined to be worth $400 and since I had owned it for 15 years they gave me $87.50 up front) After you replace the rifle you have to call them back and tell them how much you spent to replace each gun and then they make up the difference of the depriciated value they gave you up front up to the amount the gun was determined to be worth.

Sorry for the long explanation but I would encourage everyone to go have all of their guns appraised including scopes, rings and slings. Write all the makes models and serials numbers down and store them in a safe place. Then call your insurance company to see how your coverage would work in the event you have a gun stolen.
