Is everyone ready? Who all is going out. I am going with Get Bit and Row For Fish this year again with another friend. I hope we all have as good as luck as we did last year. We all got our bucks opening weekend. Here wecome east side get ready for us. And yes I will be horn hunting. Spike or better makes him legal and a potential target. I'll be hunting Silver Lake unit, near Thompson Valley Reservoir. Also plan to scout Summer Lake to prepare for a duck trip in a month or so. Never hunted Summer Lake; who knows the area and would be willing to share some insight?

My opening day is the same day as Flotilla III, so I may pack the muzzle loader wwith me so I can hit the woods after the festivities. I only have 5 days of early season, but the late season gives me 25 days during late November and the first half of December. I do most of my hunting within 10 miles of my house, and it seems to work well for me. 13 deer in 13 years. Best of luck to you all.

Hi Mike T
I'm not the best source of info on SL but I
have hunted it several times. The real question to you is are you hunting duck and not geese. The reason is that my experience has been that the better duck spots are poor goose spots and vis versa. However, if you hit a good snow storm its great everywhere for both. With a couple of exceptions you can be in for quite a walk. Like 3 miles
from the parking lot that is out back of the
checkin station. Or close to 2 miles over by the barn or north end of the public hunting land.If you are duck hunting, my first hunt would be at the southwest corner of the public lands next to the highway. The walk can be as little as a few hundred yards. The number of hunters in your party will dictate how many decoys you haul in etc. The ducks are usually in largest numbers next to the main lake and the hunting unit is at the noth end of it. We have found that if two or three guys go 3 dozen decoys are plenty. Mixing a few diver decoys in with your pudders seems to help down there. My guess is the color thing......Hope this helps a little.
