Default Crabbing Pointers

Taking some out of state guests crabbing this Saturday. Probably will rent a boat at either Netarts (crabbed there once) or Nehalem (never been there). Netarts is probably my first choice.

Just looking for some pointers on specific locations to try in either of these two bays (I have read quite a couple months worth of archives on this subject, as well). I have a drift boat but no motor, kind of the horse without a saddle situation, so I don't know the bays as well as I should to have a lot of success with crabbing. When I have gone out, it is usually renting a boat in a non-peak crabbing period (April, August, etc), and we usually catch half a dozen at most, so any tips on cutting the learning curve down would be greatly appreciated. I've crabbed a lot off of docks, and with my Uncle in his boat, so I know the how to pretty well. PM's welcome.

Will give a report when I get back Sunday, Monday. Thanks for any help!

Default Re: Crabbing Pointers

I crab Netarts alot - will be there all weekend (renting a place). I usually crab the high slack, but due to the tide times, will probably give the low slack a shot. I generally use pots with shad for bait, out performs everything else I've tried. I've heard people use turkey legs with good results.

I usually crab the lower bay in between the public ramp and the mouth - just don't get too close to the breakers, especially if you don't have a backup motor. I usually look for 12-20' of water.
