Default Hevi Shot

Has anyone tried this brand of Shotgun Shells. Pellets are reportedly heavier than lead so have the equivalent knock down power but environmentally safe. Can be shot in Steel Zones.

Anybody know anything about this??

Good stuff, just expensive, I would go with Kent faststeel, sold out of Cabelas. For a steel load it is unbelievable.

Hi Jim
There are seveal comments about Hevi-Shot on the topic of Shotshells on this board. As a
comment in hopes of being beneficial to fellow boardmembers, this product can be bought at very good prices. The members of this board can, in my opinion, be considered
a club. Clubs who pool their dollars are able to buy the Hevi-Shot at steep discount.
The company is extremely pro-hunter and we are their neighbors as northwest guys and gals. If we pool our bucks as a club does we
can buy these shells, 3 inch or 2 3/4 at the same price of 12.80 a box. Our club just did
it......so I know it can be done. The problem would be how to get it to everyone as we are scattered around.....Somebody out there may have a feasible way to solve this
problem. I am not the companies employee, but am a proponent of their product and a greatful recipient of their offer to sportsmen. It is my suspicion that very few
hunters have seen this stuff at work. We did
not get our hands on some of it until late in the season last year. It was not offered in stores to my knowledge until this summer.
Guys who got it late in the season last year were getting it through the company in Sweet-
Home. We could not believe the results on birds. The original shells we shot were roll
crimped and clear plastic hulls. The size of the shot was on the paper pastie stuck on the overwad. The shells we recieved last week are black hulls and star crimped. Shot size and rest of the required info stamped on it like all major brands. For those who have not read the other posts, the shot can be bought for reloading. Shot sizes 4 amd larger do not drop well and do need to be weighed.....Bummer.... I hope you will try this product as I have...Shooting decoyed birds will always be my favorite waterfowling
method, but this product has allowed me to go pass-shooting for the first time since steel became manditory. Pass-shooting as it was once known has almost become a lost art-form as not even tung-iron will preform this
task for those who can place the patter on fast birds at extended range. This stuff does
it. It is now going to be up to the hunter to
be honest with himself to use it correctly.
There are stories of birds brought down at 100 yards and over....I for one feel sorry for those who would misuse it and demonstrate
such an act in front of fellow hunters.

Bigshark, do you recall the price breaks/quantity that you were able to get. Could you mix shot sizes by box/case. I would guess that the shot size would be selected like lead.

Tilla
The way we did it was simply order flats of 25 boxes of ten shells. Most of us wanted #4
shot after playing with the stuff during the summer. The other flats of diffent size shot were broken open and divided up as we had each said we would take this many boxes etc to make an order for a full flat. There wasn't a price break given to us, they simple said we would need to order a few flats in total and could mix the sizes but each flat would be all one size.We ordered 7 flats in total, about 1/3 of what we had guessed we would get orders for. Like most clubs, only a handful of members are out there during the summer to see these shells perform. Our shooting in the late season with it last year was the result of being invited to a club where one of the companies investors is a member. Only a few of us got to see what it could do and use it and bring a small amount back with us. Anyway, our club order was small as most members thought we had gotten bad ice in our drinks and we were feeding them a line of you no what. We just told the company we could't get a big order. They laughed and said that O.K... I just don't think it will take much of an order in flat count to get an O.K. My guess is that if Ifisk said this is who we are and this is what we could get orders for, the answer would be O.K. What's really great about dealing with them is they are just like us, hunters and not ----heads rolling around in self importance. I hope they are the same way next year as I'd bet a dollar to a donut this is going to be a big
winner with shooters. P.S. a flat cost is $320. 250 shells-25 boxes of 10 . Yes Tilla
we are guessing that it would be like lead. The reloading manual shows some difference however.Energy is about a size higher...7 1/2
hit like 6 lead, 6s hit like 5 lead etc. This is all fine but not as impressive as the
patterns. We will all stll miss shots but its not going to be for lack of pattern density or energy.

Jim,

Sportco has Kent Fasteel, all sizes, for about $10.30 a box (of 25) for the 3" shells. I bought 2 cases of #1's, and have already taken a few grouse with them.

The Hevi-shot is an excellent shell, but a bit too spendy for my budget. I have adjusted to using steel, and by keeping my shots under 40 yards, I have had very few cripples. You have to hit the duck or goose solidly to take 'em down. Period. It doesn't matter what type of shot you use, as long as you center them in your pattern.
