somebody had some lucky hunting
I got a call from my hunting partner last night. He just got back from spending a week in Washington chasing elk with his bow. He had lots of stories and close calls trying to stick a bull. One was almost amazing.
He spots a 5 point bull and spends an hour getting into position only to have a calf laying between him and the bull. The cows are to the other side of the bull. He patiently sits for a couple hours watching the bull and this one calf. Finally the calf gets up and walks past the bull to the rest of the herd. The bull gets up and walks the other direction down into the creek for a drink. He is sure the bull is gonna walk right back the same trail since it would most likely go back to his harem after its drink. He quickly slips down and gets in position to shoot the bull when it walks back up the trail. He is about 100 yards from the bull waiting for his chance. The bull is real nervous and looking around. He thinks he may have made to much noise getting into position. The bull is standing in the creek looking left/right and acting like it is about to bolt. When all of a sudden red blood appears out of nowhere running down the side of the bull.
There was a couple other hunters walking down the creek who didnt even know the bull was there when they spot the bull. They run an arrow thru the bull and it didnt go 100 yards from where it was stuck.
My buddy talked to these lucky hunters and told them his tale of the stalk. And how it looked good right up to the point they shot the bull.
My buddy spent 3.5 hours getting back to his truck from the bottom of this nasty hole. I told him he was lucky he didnt have any meat to pack.
