Not too popular
Sometimes at various rivers I have asked fisherman if they were Ifishers.. Lots have laughed, some say they have lurked, some cursed the site... I have even heard people say.. "Your not gonna but this 'ish on the internet? I've heard, "Those turkeys from Ifish" I dont understand.... some people!

Re: Not too popular
So what do they say when you ask if they read Piscitorial Pursuits or Steelheader or QFA or any other fishing board?

Re: Not too popular
I asked an older gentleman one time if he was an ifisher and he looked at me like I was from the moon. I think I made him nervous cause he left the hole.

Re: Not too popular
Lot of the time, I just say Ifish...or Internet boards, dont know about the others realy except for qualityfishing. net.
Over all the vibe I get (unless boats have and Ifish sticker) is some people are just grumpy... I noticed this big time on the Kalama river!

Re: Not too popular
Last year there were too many positive posts to respond to. People are just fickle and it's been a slow year so far. When the fish are biting it's all good but when it's slow, well, you know. I'm pretty stoked so far just to watch a fish caught, even next to me.

Re: Not too popular
I've wondered that also at the ramp or on the river, wonder if that guy is on ifish, when not wearing an ifish cap, or sticker on your set up ifish just makes me wonder. Ifish needs to have a some kind of wave or nod of the head to acknowledge that I'm an ifish, could do the old show Mork and Mindy when Robbin Williams would do the Na-new, na-new thing... (showing my age) which is place you first 2 fingers and last 2 fingers together and seperate fingers between the two sets. (that is if your not an old meat cutter and has cut off a finger or 2. Just a thought...

Re: Not too popular
For the most part, people are reluctant to admit that they would have to stoop so low as go to the internet to learn more about their chosen sport. Like I can't understand my friend that plays golf every day rain or shine and then watches golf on TV. I for one have learned a heckuva lot about fishing in general and specialty things like albacore and sturgeon tactics, even new approaches to smoking and cleaning fish. We are usually better at anything we attempt if we're getting new information every day. If people aren't receptive to the mention of ifish, I just let it drop and move toward the weather or the high cost of fuel I for one, never thought I'd have a computer in my home, let alone use the thing,,,,,,,

"god dang portland people commin' down here and takin all of our spots!"
and then they go on to blame ifish...

Re: Not too popular
Well, it is an information age to be sure. Just look at the number of newbies here on Ifish, and some of the incredibly funny (sometimes sad) newby accounts that are posted here every day. It's all part of the tremendous growth in population in this area coupled with access to internet sites such as Ifish. I guess that's progress.

I suppose alot of folks think that is "progressing" to more people fishing limited spaces. It is understandable to be weary of characters running down the bank motor-mouthing and asking a hundred questions with no tact, but it seems most Ifishers are courteous-from what I have seen-

Re: Not too popular
It really show how big the world is, with the amount of people that are Ifish and then the ones that are yet to be educated, I don't kinow anyone that has all the answers, but when you ask all that are on the site you'll usually get a dozen answers, Love this site, has taught me a lot and my hat is off to all on it.............Ray

Re: Not too popular
I used to never post on Ifish and i was one of the peope who got [potty mouth] off at it. I like to fish where the fish are. I worked hard to find the fish then someone on there internet connection posts fish are in this river on this section. go to go fishing the next day and u can barely get your boat down the river. this has only happened 3 times but it was enuph to make me mad. Now i dont fish as seriously anymore mainly do it cuase it relaxing. and have switched more focuse to school, so i could really care less.

Re: Not too popular
If you post, they will come. The smaller the body of water, the more internet discretion is needed as fishing bulletin boards get bigger and bigger.

Re: Not too popular
I just recieved my first negative comment about Ifish while on the river about a week ago. It kind of shocked me. This guy asked me what my "handle" was. I told him expecting him to reply with his...but no, he didn't have one and didn't look to happy. The guy looked really familiar, I would almost swear I have seen his picture on here in the past.
I don't really care if people like it or not. I tend not to post what river I am on, but I have on occasion. And I always reply to my PM's. I like the PM function because that only provides info to the interested parties and elliminates the lurkers.
To those of you who have PM'd me PO'd about my posts, because they can tell what river I am on, that they like having the river to themselves, or that the I am sharing a "locals only" hole...I am sorry, fish more & surf less.

Re: Not too popular
I have had plenty of people tell me riverside what a bunch of BS ifish is. Then they proceed to tell you about this and that post in the last few days.
I was on the Cowlitz looking for some smelt on Saturday, some guy is standing on the bank behind me on his cell phone saying
"I am standing right where I just read on the internet the smelt are, I am not seeing many get caught, the boats are getting fish just like the post, but the bankies are not doing to well"
I didnt ask him what site he read it on, but I was fairly sure it was ifish.

Re: Not too popular
I guess if someone starts ranting about ifish I just move on because they are just having a bad day. Usually if someone does'nt like ifish they have been booted from ifish and are just a wee bit bitter.

Re: Not too popular
I seem to be missing something here... if people dont like Ifish and hence Ifishers then why are they looking at the site in the first place and know about this post or that.
Let me tell ya brothers and sisters the only bad publicity is an obituary

Re: Not too popular
You are never going to please everyone, so why try. Being from the Spud state, there ain't much ocean front here as you know, and I will never be a great salt water or even fresh water fisher(might even add hunter). The things I have learned from this site have been valuable and I hope to meet some of you in the flesh one of these days. Keep up the good work.
