Default Looking for grouse area

Could any of you guys help me with an area to find grouse. I really would love to have the dogs help me with a grouse hunt. Is there an area kinda close that you would share? Did this with my son in Missoula last fall and it was a blast.

I don't know of any in Washington but if you are coming over the river I can share a couple of spots. Let me know if you are coming over.

Hi Kaus
When you say kinda close do you mean west side or east side? Have you checked the geese
out yet on your side of the creek? I haven't
been out to the island since friday. Hate that moving of sprinkler pipe for our corn at the duck puddle. I don't know anything about west side grouse but the closest to us on the east side that I'm aware of is over in the "Friend" area. A buddy chased turkeys in the area and said there are grouse in good
numbers.

Just got back from a 3 day grouse hunt outside Days Creek in S. Oregon. Did really well. 9 ruffs, 3 blues and 7 mt. quail. Broke my wrist on the first day of the hunt so that kind of affected my shooting ability. Still we got into enough birds that I was able to hit some of them. This early season will see a lot of young birds still in broods. If you jump one you'll probably find 5-8 more right around there. We've always done well in the Cascades. Get off the roads w/ a good dog and you'll do just fine.

Go up to Longview and go out Coalcreek road. About 5-7 miles out there are logging roads off to the left at the top of the range. This will get you up into some nice country for the feathers your looking for.

**** Birdhunter,

That's the best excuse I've heard so far, to make up for lousy shooting.

I always fall back on the old "bent barrel" ploy!

Seriously, bad luck guy, some how I sense that you'll still make a season of it, cast(?) and all.

Bad luck I know! 50 yards into the first hunt of the morning and I fall backwards off a log. Got up and my hand was numb. Couldn't move my right wrist for the rest of the weekend. Still kept hunting though. Didn't see a doctor until today. Diagnosis - pinched nerve, should heal in 3 weeks. No repetative movement like casting though. Oh well, more time to hunt I guess. I can still move my fingers to squeeze a trigger so I'll be back out for geese next weekend. If that weren't bad enough I've got posion oak all over my arms. But you know what? It was still a great weekend and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
