Cowlitz River Update Thursday 3:30PM

I stopped by the Cowlitz and I can't belive how low and clear the water is. There are islands in the river that normally don't appear until July or August. I didn't see any signs of smelt, very few seagulls. With the 73 degree temp it feels like summer.

You folks traveling a ways to get smelt might check Ifish first. I'm sure Kalamanator will post early.

I was just down near Longview Fibre about an hour ago, there are a number of seagulls near the mouth of the Cowlitz by the railroad bridge. If there are any smelt in the river they are sitting at the mouth.

I have seen lots of gulls there too but not up here in Casatle Rock yet. I have spotted a few seals in the river this past week but haven't noticed any action taking place with the netters by carnival market, no boats moving. I might head up river tomorrow in the sled or take the drift boat down the Kalama.

all that no snow during winter just is putting a big dent into us.
