Default Navman Fuel Meter on sale-$130

Just got one of the large marine catalogs in the mail from an outfit with a store in the Portland area...

In the front they had a Navman fuel meter on special for $130.

PM me for specifics so we don't violate the AUP.

Hey, Blubest, do you need your friendly mod to edit your post to read "necessary" safety device?

I know it's been said a hundred times before, but my flow meter is one of the most valuable additions to my boat - especially when the land gets real thin and hazy in the distance and I'm still headed west.

I've got a question about these fuel flow gauges. Will it monitor how much the kicker uses? Or will it just keep track of the big motor?

Purchased one last year. Thanks Rod, for pointing this item out.
With fuel prices the way they are now, it will soon pay for itself. And it is way more acurate than the sending unit in the tank.

If you plumb it so the fusl flows through the device with the main or kicker it will work but from what I hear it is not as accurate on the kicker, especially with the fuel sipping 4 strokes but that is how I intend to connect mine.
Hope this helps.

Slabhunter,
Is the Navman fuel Monitor easy to install. On the website it appears to have an inline sensor with electrical wire to dash display.

Thanks,
Double G

Matters what type of fuel injection system. I installed it my offshore boat on a volvo system, which is fuel injected but does not have a return line to the tank. It would not work on my inboard sled, which has an MPI motor with a return line to the tank. if you have a return line, you need to step up to the quite expensive FLO SCAN sytem with dual transducers.

Worked fine for me on both carb or fuel injected OB's. It probably restricts flow way less than a filter system.
I moved mine from an older Johnson carbuerated to a newer Honda FI with no problems.

On an outboard it won't matter, on an inboard then it's like salmonfever said, it depends on your return line. If the return line just "T"'s back into the main fuel line then all you have to do is put the flowmeter upstream of that "T". If the return line has to go back to the tank then you'll need an upgraded model of flowmeter.

I have a Navman 2100 on my boat with a Yamaha F115 (fuel injected 4-stroke). I had to change the sampling rate to a longer duration (30 seconds, if I remember correctly) to get the meter to accurately measure the low flow rate at idle and trolling speeds. The "instant" GPH numbers come more slowly, but overall the meter is more accurate. My meter reads 0.2 GPH at idle.

To add to the discussion about kicker motors. My main motor only burns about a quart an hour while trolling. So, in an 8-hour day of trolling, I burn about two gallons of fuel. I would imagine a kicker motor burning even less than this. Even if you didn't connect the kicker motor to the fuel meter, and completely ignored how much you fuel your kicker motor burns while trolling, is two gallons of gas really a big deal at the end of the day? Are you running your fuel consumption so close to the "red line" that two gallons of gas makes the difference between making it back to the dock and running out of fuel?
