anybody use nextel on the river
i have used verizon, t-mobile, and nextel while on the river. i have found that nextel has been the most reliable cell service that i can get. it gets service at marmot on the sandy and it even gets service on the deschutes in some areas.
anyone else have the same results as i do? just want to know.

Re: anybody use nextel on the river
I have it and it works most places on the big rivers, bays, etc. Doesn't get much reception on the Deschutes, in the mountains, or at my house

Re: anybody use nextel on the river
I have nextell, and i have used it as far as the rockpile out of newport, i really think its amazing that you get service at marmot, it seems like anytime i go into a hole i loose service, the coolest place i got direct connect service, was at the top of lookingglass canyon in the weneha area, I was sitting there with a herd of elk in the spotting scope, talking to my dad in portland.
Needless to say he was jelous.

My company switched to Nextel just a little over a year ago and it is the WORST cell service we have had yet. However, the two way radio and GPS tracking capabilities are priceless and that is why we switched.

I've grown to hate T-Mobile. It started out w/ great service, but has only deteriorated. I'm loosing calls when all the bars are there, and it seems to be constantly cutting out.

Re: anybody use nextel on the river
From "Testament of a Fisherman" by Robert Travers (1964):
"...because mercifully there are no telephones on trout waters;...and, finally, not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant - and not nearly so much fun."
Give it a rest guys and wean yourselves from the electronic teat.

Re: anybody use nextel on the river
my nextel works great on most rivers, but on my favorite places on the Sandy I get no service. I'd rather it not work when I'm fishing. Besides its size makes a great fish bonker .
