Default Where do you guys hunt chucker?

First off, this board is going to be great. Really looking forward to it!

With upland season not being very far off, I was curiouse to know some areas that you guys have found good for upland hunting. I have new shorthair that I hunted last year, but this season is really going to be her first serious year. I really only hunt one area over on the John day right now, but I'd like some other ideas for good locations. Thanks for the help

Never heard of Chuckers? Do they throw stuff at you.?

Now if you're after Chukars, I usually go to the Quilomene area above Vantage. The snakes are thick down low, so stay up above 2500 feet.

I know a few people that hunt the Deschutes canyons and Umatilla areas. Never hunted them, but I have seen them in both these general areas.

If you have time, motor over to Halfway,go
north along the snake river on the Oregon side. Its great and that shorthair will never want to come home. Its addictive however so consider the threat of divorce court before you get hooked on 300 mile trips.

bigshark, I know about those long trips and how addictive they are. Hunted on the Idaho side last year with the shorthair for five days. Was a great trip. Hope to do it again this year.

Dogfish: should change your name to Hawk-eye. good catch on the typo

Redside I forgot to mention there are quite a few groung dwelling bee's in that area so make sure you take antihistamine for your dog if she gets stug.

Haycreek canyon, just east of the John day river near Wasco. Need a BLM map to navigate around the private land. Hunt just off of the wheat stubble. You take me to your spot I will take you to mine. That goes for everybody that hunts these body busting birds.

Lots of great places for chukar in Oregon. Hart Mt and Hells Canyon would be my favorites. We hunt just outside of Oxbow on the Snake. I've also hunted them around Lakeview, on the Avolord (?) rim, the Deschutes canyon near Tygh Valley and just outside of K Falls. Good dog will find you plenty of birds in any of these places. Best of luck, it does get addictive!
