Default Wrapped Kwik Fish

I was talking to a guy I know that likes to tell the fish tales (not an ifisher). Anyways he said that instead of wrapping kwik fish with a sardine to stick a piece of velcro on the kwik fish in place of the sardine and put a few drops of sardine sent on the velcro. He claims the scent will last much longer. His words were a sardine is only effective for 15 to 20 minutes while the sardine scented velcro will last for hours. Hmmm...makes me wonder.

Hours??

Nothing beats the real thing. Bait wraps are way better IMHO. I do have some prickly sided velcro in case I run out of bait. Rub some flesh into the velcro and send it down.

But I never seem to run low on bait, so the velcro see's no action.

Better off with the real thing.Seems like cutting corners to me.The only time this has worked for me is on smaller Kwiks and flatfish in steelhead sizes.

Heck, they'll bite a bare, clean kwikfish just fine, as a couple of members will testify. I just seem to be a little more confident when I've got a big fat fresh fillet, laden with the Hilton Secret Sauce. A piece of velcro smeared with sauce might work just fine, but I also always seem to have plenty of bait. Why mess with success?

I also put a fresh fillet on every hour, but have seen fillets that have been soaking for hours get hit, too. Just not me, because mine are never out there that long.

My personal preference is just using the "naked" kwikfish with long dangling siwash hooks. Add a dab of special mix smelly jelly if it makes you feel more confident. They are so pretty with their factory paint jobs, it seems counter-productive to put a big ugly chunk of brown sardine fillet on their bellyside.

Now having stated my "personal preference" ...I 'have' fished bait wraps with some of my bait wrappin' buddies and we have just knocked the snoop-dog outa them!

...guess I'll need to run and equal conditions comparative test someday.

Last year just to experiment I wrapped a piece of sponge about 1/2 x 1/4 and soaked it in scents. I noticed two things, you don't have to adjust your lure everytime and when brought up every half hour it still left a visible scent trail. The catching was about the same as the guy next to me so I don't think it hurt, but I don't think helped either. Maybe I'll try it again this year.
