David, I was there today and the river has really dropped. It's so low that the top end of that channel is dry. Much lower than the picture in the paper. I am afraid those little guys are going to get trapped in there. Its a great project though.

Thanks for the link David, this a very important step in habitat restoration. I'd like to see some of this type of thinking applied to our coastal streams, I think it would make a world of differance in those rivers. Most are diked and rip rapped to death right now, amagin what they'd be like with real fish habitat.

I think the channel you saw was probably the main, overflow channel. It's separated from the smaller channel fed by spring and ground water (and that one is pretty well hidded from sight from the river...It won't run dry, which is why the fry are in there...

That's good to know Bill. I didn't walk the whole thing today. I did see about 1 doz fry at the head of the channel. I moved some rocks to give them a way out. I would think that they would want water in the whole thing year roud so the fish could take advantage of all the wood structure that was installed.

Thanks for the article. I was glad to learn that this project was implemented after learning about it during the last Salmon Quest and its planning process.
