Default Newbie Salty Wanna-be

Hey Salty's,
I would like to introduce myself. Native Montana boy, off to college at Oregon State, now an average NW salmon fisher, wanting to learn the tuna and butts. Just sold the old boat and picked up a 22ft Hewescraft Searunner hardtop with Honda 150ob and offshore bracket.

My introductory story. As mentioned, grew up hunting, ice fishing and fly fishing in Montana. Dad was a school teacher and spent summers with his buddies out at Neah Bay WA fishing for kings and butts in the 80's when there were still fish around. When I wasn't playing baseball he drug me out there for some fishing. I vividly remember catching my first king at about 12 years old at Port Townsend, WA. It was quite the experience with the familliar forearm burn, but my heart almost dropped out my butt when I finally got sight of the 25 pound king on the line!! Quite a difference from a 12 inch trout!! I was hooked after that, with many more memorable trips out to Swiftshore and Neah Bay in the old mans 22ft fiberform.

Fast forward 25 years and here we are. Dad is now retired and itching to get after some tuna in the new boat when he comes out from Montana. We do the anual Buoy 10 and Tilly Bay trips, but I am now looking to venture offshore. As a new guy, I am looking for any and all info on tuna and butt spots, and terminal gear.
This site is a great avenue to meet new people and experience new things in life, all advice is greatly appreciated.

Tite Lines,
Cory

Welcome. There is TONS of information archived in back posts, and more to come, I am sure.

There are lots of people with tons of info here, so ask questions, and come to our informal meetings if you can.

There are lots of guys willing to crew, who have experience and knowledge in the art of putting both tuna and BFBs in the boat. Bring one along if you have an open seat. I have been fishing with different ifisher's on the salt for a long time now, and I can tell you that it has really increased my knowledge exponentially.
