>>>How Early Have You Caught A Springer?<<<
With springers just trickling in, I'm curious what is the earliest date in any year you have caught a springer adult (clipped or native), not smolt, jack, or Spaniel . Mine was April 12, last year.
SKP

Re: >>>How Early Have You Caught A Springer?<<<
When I fished the blacktop (Dahl Park) the earliest was January 28th. Usually always had a fish in February, during high water years in the '80's, that was the best time to catch springers there. By the end of March, most oldtimers were gone from there and fishing the Clackamas. Davis bar was normally pretty good during the last week of February just before they would close the Columbia. I havn't been out yet this year, most likely won't be until the end of March. Mainly due to the netting situation now. Can't catch fish if you don't wet a line.

Wow, look at that graph! Looks like mid-March is when they start coming in good numbers, and that is just a week away!

Re: >>>How Early Have You Caught A Springer?<<<
August 25th out in the ocean off Ilwaco. This happened this last year and I just got the info. back from WDFW that it was indeed a spring chinook from the Cowlitz salmon hatchery. The fish was from the 2001 brood stock and was release from the hatchery on April 3, 2003. This fish was approx. 11-12 lbs. out in the big blue last summer!
Definitely the earliest I've ever caught!

Re: >>>How Early Have You Caught A Springer?<<<
Feb 12th was my earliest lucky day...happened about 3 years ago with limits 3 days in a row! FishHunter put an early one in my boat last weekend Saturday, which was Feb. 20 somethin'? Seems like almost traditionally there is a little February burst of fish up the Willamette and then it calms down til the 3rd week of March. I think Fishhunter put springers in the boat, 3 Feb. trips in a row this year. He was batting 100%!
