Default Roof rack on pickup canopy

I need a canoe/cargo rack for the canopy on my truck. It's a fiberglass canopy that extends above the cab. I see some interesting racks out there that bolt onto the canopy and I think that's probably what I'll need, but I can't find them at any stores. Does anybody have suggestions?

Thanks

There are several on the internet - use CANOPY RACk as you keywords in Google and you will find them. I'm in the same boat as you, but I have the horizontal C Channel stock aleady and just need the mounting feet.

I'm going to go to Clackamas Steel and get about 18" of 2" square tubing and have a friend of mine cut the feet out of the tubbing like this

C Channel

Roof of Canopy

So that the narrow top fits inside my C Channel which is about 2" and wider section I'll then bolt through the roof with two bolts per foot. I only need to support my small fishing boat and Eide Boat loader so it will not be a heavy load. If I notice any sagging, I'll brace the inside of the canopy.

Here is a link to truck specialities with a canopy rack

Truck Specialties

Hope that helps - if in your search you find some place that sells just the parts like the mounting feet let me know.

Find a canopy shop that sells your brand of canopy. There have been discussions on a couple of the canopy shops in months past here in the forums.

Some of the other brands may have racks that will fit yours if you can't find any by your manufacturer...

Might want to double check your warranty just to be safe regarding mods like this.

Hi dimwit...

I've used "Quik-N-Easy" on 3 caps/canopies (one a Leer, one a Raider). They work very well for lumber, poles, canoes, small boats, etc. Not too expensive, very easy to remove and install. I've purchased mine at All-American, but other places have them too. I've hauled some pretty good loads, and never a problem with load slipage, or canopy damage.

Here's a description of how they work...Permanately mounted in each corner of the cap/canopy is a small "rail" about 4-inches long. A pair of yokes supporting a round pipe clamp onto the two front rails, and another pair on the back rails. Each pipe has a pair of clamps than can be used to hold down a boat/canoe, for example, or you can simply tie the load to the pipe.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll check them out. I see several rigs driving down the road with what I think I need but I can't find them in a store. I going to have to follow someone until they stop and ask where they came from. They may be interesting if they guy is paranoid and realizes that I'm following him.

I picked up the 2" square stock I need at Clackamas Steel over the weekend - 6 bucks. They had plenty of scrap C channel stuff.

I second the vote for Rack Attack in downtown Portland. It's located right across the street from PGE Park.
