Default Cathlamet springer question

I just wanted to get some tips on differences between fishing the Willamette and fishing down near Tenasillahe island. My only experience so far for springers is fishing the Willamette system. Are there any differences on technique when fishing the the lower Columbia? I prefer trolling over anchoring and pulling herring around is my go-to method. I guess my most important question would be what type of bottom structure and depth to look for? Thanks in advance.

Water in the Columbia is still a bit cold. But look for 12-20 feet of water, troll the tide change and sit on the hook during outgoing tide.

Most of the trolling takes place in the Clifton Channel. It's basicly a follow the flow show. Keep your bait just off the bottom. Troll with and across the current. Run back and do it again. Oh, watch out for the deadheads!

Thanks for the replies. Anybody else want to chime in?

From what I've heard it's still a bit too cold in the Columbia, but we've got no choice on the date. Friends of ours are going camping/fishing this weekend and we said we'd come down and join them in the hunt on Saturday. I'm just looking for an edge on the "friendly" competition. Thanks again everyone.

Follow the others in Clifton. No real secrets involved, just go where the other boats are and do what they're doing. Troll herring and a cannonball on a dropper on the bottom.
