What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
I like using a 1/80oz. pearl or red/pearl tube jig, with the samllest bober I can find. Sometimes I use a large corkie for a bobber. So what do you have the best luck on? Thanks In Advance....Ross

Re: What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
I like the little red/pearl jig also. Another good one is a 1/80 or 1/64 tied out of chukar marabou.Has a natural 2 tone sheen that works well when the fry is hatching.

Re: What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
Many times I get them on 1/16 rooster tails, yellow seems to always do the job but also the red & white one. Those Berkley maggots, and earthworms do better than the real thing.

Re: What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
While I was fishing the St. Croix river in Minnesota, I caught one monster bluegill on a lure jensen hot lips , but normally I use a small bobber and a worm. Because woyms always woyks.

Re: What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
Bluegill are the cutest little things, I just love them.
I've had my best luck still-fishing with nightcrawlers, under the smallest float that will float the rig. But only only a segment that's 1/2" to 1" long.
Do 2 or 3 hooks on the same rod, where legal. Spaced about 1' apart, on 3" droppers.
Constantly adjust your depth, or use a live underwater video camera on a cable, to see where they are....location is the key.
They don't seem to like to move very fast AT ALL to get the lure.

Re: What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
I bet you'd catch FOUR times as many fish if you sweeten the jig with the correct amount of live nightcrawler.
Also, I like to go SMALLER than 1/32 oz., unless you are targeting the monster 'gills.

When jigs are not working, I like to switch over to meal worms. They can be dynomite!

Re: What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
Use to fish Mocks Bottom before they filled it. It was loaded with nice bluegills. My brother and I would catch them all day long and when we ran out of worms we would catch them on bare Size 6 baitholder hooks jigged up and down. Caught my very first Largemouth there too. Now its all asphalt....what a travesty!!!!

Re: What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
Now Shalom this is not a pretty picture you painted!!!!(just kidden).
Favorite bait...used to love to fly fish for the little critters and would use a little black fly with rubber legs. Just loved casting it towards the beds and watching them look and look and then you'd twitch it and in their mouth it would go. Once in a while a bass would grab it and their would go another fly.

Re: What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
Casting worms with a split shot 2-3 feet above hook, let it free fall down past those little critters, and hold on. Doing this with ultra light gear is a hoot!

Smallest black popper I can find that I can some what throw out there with my 5 wt. fly rod. ( I am fly fishing challenged )
Try it at Tenmile during the summer, it's some of the funnest fishing you will ever have!

Did you go to ROOSEVELT ? I WAS JUST WONDERING ? I graduated in 1957 !!!!!
I have a lot of good memories of north PORTLAND .Last question , were you as stupid as me and walk through the train tunnel and go fishing at mocks bottom !!!! The crazy things that kids do and live !!!!! A train came the first and last time I might add that I was in the tunnel . I ran as fast as I could , and I almost got out . I was about 50- yards from the end when I had to dive into the ditch with all of the old smelly and stagnant water and who knows what else was in that ditch . It was ugly and smelled worse than it looked . I had heard that trains will suck you under while they are going by . You can only imagine what I was thinking about . I don’t remember how many fish I caught , but I do remember going swimming with my cloths on to try to get the smell out of my cloths so that my mother wouldn’t ask why they smelled so bad . SO much for memories of the good old days.

Re: What is your favorite Bluegill lure?
A 1/64 oz. Northland Firefly in Lime/Chartruse tipped with a crappie nibble under a very light bobber. If they are really finicky, a small piece of nightcrawler instead.
