Default perch/Brownsmead

I'm thinking about taking my kids fishing sometime soon, and have a few books that briefly talk about perch fishing around Blind Slough. I'm somewhat familiar with Horseshoe Island and the surrounding areas, but clueless as to if it produces perch. Can anyone guide me in the right direction so I can put my kids into some nice fish? Depths, tides, and baits are what I'm wondering about. All info would be tremendously appreciated!

Our club used to go up to Blind Slough for perch fishing on an annual basis. We stopped going around the mid 1990's because the perch had gotten so few and far between. They do exist up there though and March was always the time of year we went up there. But because we found so many perch at Hagg Lake, that is where we have been going for the last 8 years or so.

Thanks for the reply. When you used to fish there were you just using a bobber set-up around brushpiles, ect? I'll probably make a run down there in march anyhow to get the kids out. Thanks again!

On the subject of Hagg Lake, it will be opening early this year. When ODFW printed the 2004 regs, they stated that the fishing season at Hagg started Feb. 28. Hagg is supposed to open the first weekend in March, but they decided to go with what the state printed.

We fished for the perch off the bottom. I don't remember anybody using bobbers.

I'm thinking maybe we should wait another month or so. I've read something about the perch run coinciding with an anchovy run? I still need to figure out when this happens.

I don't have personal knowledge, but I have heard that perch can be caught in Blind Slough around the bridge pilings. I know there is a bridge that crosses the slough (I think it is a railroad bridge), I don't know if there are others. Like I said I havn't done it so take it for what it is worth.
